Sometimes I am so amazed how long it´s been since Jerry has been gone. Whenever I get my flu shot I rember. Because Jerry gave it to me. He didn´t relegate it to his nurse or staff as most offices do. He would slip into the room and quickly give it and have a short conversation about how are you. How is your hubby etc. genuinely interested and just a quick way to check on one of his patients. And the gig thing I remember about Jerry is that really cute smile and when I told him something or disagreed he would smile and say "understood". Ow I can only say I wish I understood. What a remarkable doctor but more important a remarkable human being and man. He will always be missed.

You know it’s hard to believe you’re not here anymore when I see you and your signature smile on a regular basis. You always could light up a room with that smile! I missed you not being in the burg anymore but always thought one day I would pop in and see that smile in person . Obviously we will meet at a different time possibly. I will always remember your kind heart for every human being and your selfless chances to help others as you did that day. You will always have a special place in my heart

My whole family was a patient of Dr. Rabinowitz and will never forget is kindness, his true concern, and the he would take explaining our aliment, treatment, and preventions. This doctor was such an exception to them all; no doctor that I've ever been to past or present, had the skills, caring, and smiles that he gave to everyone. My heart has been broken but I will always remember Dr. Rabinowitz; he has a special place in my heart. God bless his family and my God grant them peace.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Dr. Rabinowitz took care of my mother, son and me for many years and he truly was one of a kind. He was such a wonderful inspiration to everyone and sunshine followed him where ever he would go. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends as they remember this day a year ago. May he be resting in peace.

My sister and I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz. Dr. Rabinowitz was the personal physician of my mother, Vernell A. Lillie, for at least 30 years. He was an amazing human being and always just a phone call away when my family needed him. In his death, he reminds us that we can continue to live on through our selfless acts of courage. Dr Rabinowitz, you are an inspiration to all of us who seek to counter the hate that divides this country. Rest in peace.
Warmly,

Dr Rabinowitz was so young at heart and he must have had an enlarged heart because it was so big. I remember one time when Fred Rogers told him that. But really that applies to most of Squirrel Hill.

We are thankful for all of the visits we had with Dr Rabinowitz and the wisdom he shared about medicine and our religion. He also valued our friend Cyril Wecht for his faith and justice.
November 12, 2018
Dr Rabinowitz believed in helping others at all times. He had mentioned to others about the closeness of the people of Squirrel Hill. I remember once that he admired the humbleness of Corey O Connor whose mother is Jewish. Pgh has a lot going for it. We will always be remembered for our love for our city and its leaders like Sophie Masloff.

I was mentored in family medicine residency by Jerry Rabinowitz. He was new to practice himself, and a humble, talented teacher. It was 1985 and we both had perms! My heart aches for such a loss to all humankind, and especially his wife and relatives. A life well lived, and so thankful our paths crossed.

This senseless tragedy was reminiscent of the shooting of Linda Rosen years ago by someone who disliked the Jewish community. She was killed in St Francis Hospital in Pgh. Now Linda is joined by others from Squirrel Hill.

Jerry was my doctor for 35 years and leaves a void in my life that no one can fill. He was not only a skilled practitioner, but also a kind, caring, compassionate human being, doctoring in such a way that he was more than a physician: he was a loving friend. I can remember on an early visit to his office, seeing the Hippocratic oath framed and hanging on his wall, an oath he lived by, day by day. It was that oath that guided his life -- and death, serving others to the end. It is central to the Jewish faith to be "a light to the nations." Jerry certainly was such a light, one which will shine for so many in Pittsburgh, one which will shine in my heart forever, challenging me to live for others, as he so nobly did. May he enjoy the fullness of life in the bosom of Abraham.

I moved back from L.A.to my home town of Pittsburgh late 1985 and signed on as a patient of Jerry's in 1986. He has been my dear friend and doctor for 32 years. He brought me biblical tiles from his visits to Israel. He brought his entire office staff and some friends to see me perform as Art Rooney Sr in The Chief at the Pittsburgh Public Theater, and we had a wonderful laugh-filled visit in the lobby after. He took on my son Taylor as a new patient last year even though he was not really taking on new patients, especially young ones. He said he was thinking of retiring from practice. But he embraced anyone who reached out to him for help. I loved Jerry, and I will miss him all of my life. May God console all of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Tom Atkins

Doctor Rabinowitz My friend Kathy recently passed this year in June. She like I dearly love the Jewish people. Thank you for our religion (we are Christians). The Old Testament is Judaism. Words are not quite adequate at this time to express my deepest sympathies for your Your entire family. We are all devastated. There is special meaning for a man named Jerry. My father, Officer Jerry Fingeret, found Dr. Jerry while at Shadyside Hospital during his residency in the 1980's. He was our family's doc for 40 years. Dr. Jerry was always there for our family & by our side during our most difficult hours on the Shabbat evening when we lost my Dad 4/19/2013. As religious as he was, he came to console & comfort our family in our time of need on that Shabbat & for that, we were truly grateful! He was exemplary of a doctor as they come. He would never consider himself a hero, but he was. He will be missed beyond words but will never be forgotten.
May his memory be an eternal blessing

Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz was a co-worker of mine many years ago in Pittsburgh... He was extremely energetic, intelligent and sharp as a tack. He also had the ability to be very friendly and kind to his co-workers and patients.. I am posting this because I wanted his family and his congregation and all of Pittsburgh and all of the world to know what a wonderful human being he was... God has him now so we needn't worry but we surely will miss him. Did you take good care and try to continue on his legacy as much as possible! Barbara Palumbo

To the family of Dr. Rabinowitz: He was truly an excellent person like so many of the people in Squirrel Hill. Like Daniel Leger he believed that no one should die alone. He was known to hold the hands of HIV patients with no gloves on his hands as they were fighting to stay alive. He died trying to save others that day and was not afraid to die when coming into direct contact with deadly diseases! Linda

Sending deep codolences to the family of Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz. Have known Jerry since he was a Family Practice resident. Two words come to mind that described him then and throughout his career; love and courage. Jerry loved his patients and the practice of medicine. For him it was a sacred calling. Patients and colleagues knew this about Jerry. Specialists whom he asked to participate in the care of his patients viewed it as a privilege. Knowing how well Jerry cared for his patients, colleagues felt wonderfully pressured to maintain the quality of the care he provided. Jerry was a courageous and outspoken advocate for maintaining the dignity of patients under all circumstsnces and placing them and their family at the center of care. The first thought that came to mind with the shock of recognizing that Jerry was among the victims was that Jerry lost his life while administering to others. His final act of selflessness and courage have been validated. Jerry Rabinowitz...Tzadik.

To the family of Jerry Rabinowitz,
My heart is heavy today with the untimely loss of such a kind and caring doctor, who was taken from us all way too soon. I had the privilege of knowing Jerry as a childhood friend at Maple Avenue School in Newark, New Jersey. We shared the same birthday and celebrated together each year. I sat directly behind him in several classes. He was always a bright and good student and a caring person towards his classmates. He also had an amazing sense of humor. We reconnected at the Maple Ave 50th Reunion after many years, and he was a joy to talk with. He will be greatly missed by his class as well as all those he healed as a physician. May he rest in peace.
