JOAN HURLEY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 28 to Mar. 29, 2014.

HURLEY JOAN D. (GILL)
Age 83, of Scott Twp., formerly of Jefferson Hills, on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Wife of the late Edward L. Hurley; beloved mother of Edward L. (Susan) Hurley, Maura (Donald) Puglio, Erin (Daniel) Knoll, Michael (Gretchen) Hurley, Kathleen Hurley and Patricia Hurley; proud and loving "Nana" of John, Katherine and Christopher Hurley, Juliana Puglio, Caroline (Greg) Mays, Caitlin and Brighid Knoll, Sean (Sabrina) Hurley and Michael Hurley; sister of Janet (Bob) Kirkpatrick and the late Raymond (and his surviving spouse, Betty) Gill; sister-in-law of Eileen (Tom) Sullivan; cousin of Essie Bigger; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A firm believer in education, she earned her bachelor's degree while still raising children. She was an avid reader and always kept her Kindle within reach. Joan loved to travel, see and experience new places, but her favorite vacation was spending time near the ocean with family. A true sports fan, she loved the Steelers and Penguins, and especially cheering for her grandchildren in the stands. Joan made family a priority, and we cherish our memories of the fancy dinners, the holiday celebrations and how special she made birthdays. A kind and caring person, Joan was always ready to listen and add her prayers in times of need. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held Saturday 5-7 p.m. and Sunday 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 10:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Entombment in Jefferson Memorial Park. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org or the American Diabetes Assoc., Diabetes. org/Donate. Condolences may be made at:

Joan was a wonderful matriarch to the Hurley family, with many children, marriages, grand children, and beyond. Deeply remembered also is our memory of the preceeded death of her husband, Edward L. Hurley, with whom she supported and gave great comfort through life's difficulties. A fine couple, now reunited in the eternal peace of the creator.
