Tragically, on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Bernice Ruth (Rothenberg) Simon; beloved father of Michelle Simon Weis, Marc A. (Machi) Simon, Michael (Robin) Simon and the late Martin E. Simon; "Zadie" to Joshua, Lauren, Marissa, Tyler, Malone and McKenzie. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside, on Thursday, at 12 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to services (11 a.m.-12 p.m.). Interment and military honors to follow at 2 p.m. at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. www.schugar.com

We wanted the family of Sylvan & Bernice Simon to know that even though we never met them, our family was very deeply moved when hearing of their passing.
Their marriage lasted so very long, most likely due to love, not just for one another but also for our loving God.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of Bernice and Sylvan. They were a lovely couple. I got to know them through my mother, Mary Cook. She was part of the Tuesday night "gang" at Jodi B's. My mother was so happy to know them and to converse with them weekly. They shared a remarkable life together. May you find comfort and peace at this time.

Hi Marc, Michelle and Michael,
You may not remember me. I am Stanley's sister in Berkeley, CA. Sylvan became my stepbrother when your grandmother, Bubbie Rose, married my father Jack Harris around 1957 when I was 13-14.
I was totally shocked to see that Bernice and Sylvan were among the murder victims at the Tree of Life. I do not have your phone numbers, so this was the only way I can tell you how very sorry I am. Both Betsy and Jason, my son and daughter, want me to let you know they were also horrified to hear this terrible news. The tragic loss of Sylvan is a great sadness. It's touches my heart that he enjoyed a long loving marriage to Bernice. So rare these days. I hope you will find comfort in the words of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who promises that soon the whole earth will rest, free of disturbance. At that time the only cries will be cries of joy. (Isaiah 14:7) Please accept my sincere condolences.
