George Lewis Conner, 84, of Lexington, died Saturday August 3, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Buena Vista. Born March 9, 1929, in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Jake Yost Conner and Mary Irvine Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Claude and Fonze and two sisters, May Toms and Lillian Brown. Mr. Conner was retired from VDOT as superintendent. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Shirley B. Conner; a sister, Edna Rumsey, North Little Rock, Ark.; numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013, in Harrison Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tony Nix officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450. Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
