JOHN KEELEY Obituary

KEELEY, JOHN MARK - formerly of Brigantine, left this life after a brief illness on the evening of December 6th in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 86. He was drafted out of high school to serve in the United States Navy during the Second World War, then worked as an ironworker in local 350, as an aide to Congressman William J. Hughes of the 2nd district, and later as a life-guard, before moving to Virginia to be close to his children. He had many great stories about the colorful local politics in the old days of Atlantic City and his aspirations to political office as a yellow-dog Democrat. He died peacefully and surrounded by his daughters, Ellen and Kathleen, their spouses, Borna and Tom, and his beloved granddaughter, Maeve. Although he suffered in his later years from heart disease and dementia, he never lost his gentle nature, generous spirit, and essential optimism. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, brothers Mathias and Joe, and sisters Peggy, Mary and Kathleen. He is survived by his children, sisters Agnes and Ann, and many nieces and nephews. Services are to be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date, to be announced. In place of flowers, please send contributions in memory of John M. Keeley to UVA Health Foundation Palliative Care, PO Box 800773, Charlottesville, VA 22908.

So sorry to read of your loss. His life and love will not be forgotten by those who love him nor by 'the God of all comfort, who numbers the hairs of our head and who knows when even a small sparrow falls'. My sincere condolences to you in hopes that you find friendship and support in the days ahead.
