Marjorie S. Bottoms Marjorie S. Bottoms n‚e Marjorie June Spangenberg, fondly known as "Spanky" died peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at her home at Sunrise of Bluemont Park in Arlington, Virginia. She celebrated her 90th birthday last June in Charlottesville. Marjorie was born in southern California, grew up in Los Angeles, and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's Degree in Art, with emphasis in commercial art. She trained at USC and in Hot Springs, Arkansas, for the United States Army War Emergency Program in Occupational Therapy. She was a pioneer in the Occupational Therapy field and remained close to her OT classmates all her life. Her first marriage to Joseph Zamudio ended in divorce. Her second marriage to Albert Bottoms lasted some 54 years and included living in Europe, Hawaii, Japan, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Virginia. Her husband's career as a senior Navy civilian scientist involved lots of travel. In the 1990s, they settled in the Colthurst Farm neighborhood of Charlottesville. Most of the last five years they lived in The Colonnades. She is survived by her husband, Albert; her two children from her first marriage, Linda Wright and Cecil and Joe Zamudio and Kim; and by her son, Maitland Bottoms, from her marriage to Albert. She is also survived by her sister, Leah Sauter and Walt; many nieces and nephews; stepdaughter, Karen Austin and Ken Young; and their two children, Kira and Kiley. Memorials will be private.
