Every Chinese New Year, Tyrus Wong would appear as a guest in the classroom of his daughter Kay Fong, a wonderful teacher at Franklin Avenue School. Mr. Wong taught the children about the lunar holiday, showed them how to write in Chinese characters, helped them make crafts of the lunar animal, and cooked delicious crispy won tons that everyone enjoyed. My sons, now adults, very much enjoyed meeting Mr. Wong and still speak fondly of the experience.
