Charles Andrus Obituary

Charles Robert "Uncle Bob" Andrus, 76, of Ucon, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Idaho Falls to Samuel Reed Andrus and Melba Phyllis Brown Andrus. He attended schools in Ucon and Ammon and graduated from Bonneville High School. He served as a private first class in the Army Reserve. He attended Ricks College and Idaho State University, where he received his bachelor's degree. He was selected from a group of educators to represent the State of Idaho at Royalton College in Vermont.

On Sept. 1, 1961, he married Jean Caroline McBride in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He was a schoolteacher for 34 years in the community. This is where he received his nickname, "Uncle Bob," from his beloved students. He can be found on the "Wall of Fame" at Bonneville High School as "Teacher of the Year." He also spent most of his life farming in the Ucon area.

Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a 2 ½-year mission in the Netherlands. He was a security guard for the Idaho Falls Temple for 12 years.

He enjoyed cars, was an avid reader and a talented singer, singing all over the valley. He especially loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors are his wife, Jean Andrus of Ucon; sons, Kerry R. (Elizabeth Bushman) Andrus of Princeton, Texas, C. Thayne (Tammy Guillory) Andrus of Iona, and Patrick S. (Stephanie Ritchie) Andrus of Ucon; daughters, CharDawn (Blair) Willis of Ucon, Stephanie (Darrin) Baldwin of Ucon, Kate (Josh) Hanks of Salt Lake City and Jamie (Louis) Sheppard of Boise; brothers, Kendall Andrus and G. Rich Andrus; sisters, Geniece Smith, Portia Morgan, Therel Frei and Jean Brink; and 22 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gordon and Alyn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at the Ucon Stake Center, 2967 E. 105 North, with Bishop Jay Neeser of the Ucon Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Ucon Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.

Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
