William Humphries Obituary

William Dean Humphries, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dean was born Nov. 16, 1926, in Woodville, Idaho, to William Chesley Humphries and Marilda Louise Chaf-fin Humphries. He attended Sheet Metal Welding and Drafting Technical Training.

On Aug. 23, 1945, he married Betty Ann Davies in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. From this union they were blessed with five children, William, Kathy, Sheryl, Daron and Scott.

Dean worked as a welder fabricator at Miskin Scrapers, Forbes, Bingham Mechanical, and Markhams; and he later started his excavation business in 1988.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities in the bishopric. He served a one-and-a-half-year mission for the church in Birmingham, Ala., as well as other service missions.

He had several interests, including horses and welding. He loved all aspects of music -- especially singing and dancing with his beloved wife.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty; sons, William Chris Humphries of Moore Park, Calif., and Daron D. (Sandi) Humphries and Scott D. Humphries, both of Idaho Falls; daughters, Kathy Ann (Brad) Nield and Sheryl Kay (Richard) Lidyard, both of Idaho Falls; brothers, Len C. Humphries of Rexburg, Jess Humphries of Salt Lake City, Jerry Humphries of Idaho Falls and Ron Humphries of Boise; sisters, Bertha Baxter of Rigby, Leah Hill of Idaho Falls and Marvel Yates of Hood River, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Deloy Humphries; and sisters, Ruby Montague and Ruth Ciesielski.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Coltman LDS 1st Ward Building, 1244 N. Fifth East, with Bishop Blair Sautter officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday before services at the church. Burial will be in Grant Central Cemetery.

Dear Aunt Betty, Chris, Kathy, Sheryl, Daron, & Scott,

Dean was a special spirit and I will always remember his wonderful sense of humor and his compassion for others. I know he is with our Heavenly Father and my parents, Ruth, Deloy and Grandpa and Grandma are all celebrating his arrival. May God ease your feelings of loss and replace them with fond memories until you see him once again. Sending lots of love to you all, Terry
