Dates, Henry Of Gary, IN was born October 29, 1933 in Vance, Mississippi, a former resident of Gary, Indiana passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013. He was a retired Electrician for the U.S. Steel Corp. He also retired from the City of Gary Parks Department and Building Department. He served as Precinct Committeeman for the 3rd District for 30 plus years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vennie Dates; daughter, Tanya Ingram; his parents; and 2 brothers. He leaves to cherish his memories: sister, Earlene Rideout; children, Vernita (Robert) Leslie, Rhoda Akins, Henry Dates III, Frieda Taylor, Samara (Emanuel) Smith and Lenard Dates; a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Visitation Friday, October 25, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service immediately following at Guy & Allen Chapel, 2959 West 11th Avenue, Gary, Indiana 46404. Interment Fern Oaks Cemetery.
