LAVERNE WILLIAMS Obituary

LAVERNE WILLIAMS
"Bird"

Laverne "Bird" Williams passed into the loving arms of God on July 30, 2010, at the age of 52. Born February 7, 1958, she attended the Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis and graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father, Berry Williams, Jr. of Gary, Indiana; and her mother, Creola Jernigan, of Michigan City, Indiana; a brother, Emmett Williams of East Chicago/Gary, Indiana; and her sisters, Rose Williams and Lillie Jernigan of Michigan City, Indiana. Laverne was an adoring and devoted mother and is survived by her three sons, Jeremy, Joshua, and her son, Jordan, who was close by her side for the last four years. Laverne helped raise her nephew, Leland, and niece, Brianna. Brianna and Rose were also kind and tender caregivers to Laverne. In addition to her brother, Hamza (Peggy) Abdul-Hafiz of Merrillville, Indiana, and sister, Lydia Williams (Steven) Wright of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, she is also survived by eleven nephews, four nieces, four great-nephews, two great-nieces; and brother-in-law, Richard Edwards. Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, for their compassionate and tender loving care of Laverne. May Laverne now rest in peace in God's warm and loving embrace. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2010 at 12 Noon at the Root Funeral Home, 312 E. 7th St., Michigan City. A time of remembrance will be on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 12 Noon at the funeral home.
