So sorry to hear of the loss of Al and Martha Douglas. Both of them gave endlessly of themselves to make their world a better place. The years of dedication to the community of Trappe speaks loudly on their love for the community. Trappe will miss them both for years to come. May their family find strength in their faith during this time of loss.
Al was definitely part of the "greatest generation".
Rest in Peace.

A great leader, loyal American, loving husband
and father-grandfather. A caring neighbor.

Dear Nancy, Bill, and family,
We are truly so sorry for your loss. Your mom & dad were exceptional, loving and generous to all. Their love for you will never end. How dear they were, and how lucky we are to have known them. God bless you.

Al Douglas. Naval veteran of WWII. Then as a civilian, engineered and built the hatches for the Bradley Assault Vehicles. Owned a business. Raised four daughters. Then, Al donated the entirety of his time and talent to Trappe for nearly half his life, as did his true partner, his wife, Martha. Al and Martha made a true team. As an elected public servant, Al dedicated his final four decades to the service and defense of his fellow Trappe taxpayers. Along the way he made many friends and enemies, and the twain shall never agree on what constitutes wise stewardship of taxpayer dollars, but on this they must agree: no one has given more time and energy to Trappe Borough. Not just those of us who know and love Al and Martha but all Trappe residents owe these two our gratitude and respect. It has been an honor for me personally to serve in his place, though I know that even if I continue to occupy Al's role for as many years as he served, my work will never come close to his. You left giant footprints to follow, Al. A true and talented fiscal conservative; a real Republican; a Patriot. Saying goodbye to you last Saturday was not unlike losing my own father a second time. Sooner or later, I shall see you again.
