Donald R. Detwiler Sr., 86, husband of F. Shirley (Potts ) Detwiler, of Phoenixville, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville Hopsital.
Born in Phoenixville, Pa., he was the son of the late Ralph A. Detwiler and Helen Somers Lombardo.
Donald worked as a manager of the lumberyard in the shipyard in Wilmington Delaware.
He was a member of St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ in Chester Springs, Pa. He was a mason member of the Phoenix Lodge 75 in Phoenixville, Pa. Donald loved woodworking, hunting and fishing.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the World War II.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of 63 years, two sons, Curtis B. Detwiler of Kimberton, Pa., and Donald R. Detwiler Jr. of Kalispell, Mont.; four grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Patrick, Lindsay; a great-grandson, Cameron; a brother, Jonathan Detwiler, and wife Gloria, of Media, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his step-mother, Grace M. (Oberholser) Detwiler; and his brother, Bruce Lombardo
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ, 1193 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA 19425, on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be private at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ, 1193 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA 19425.
