LAURA C. HENDRICK, 77, OF KNAUERTOWN Laura Hendrick (nee Clarkson) passed away on September 25, 2012 at home in Chester County, surrounded by love. Born in New York City on April 27, 1935, she grew up in Arlington, VA. She was married to Bill, her husband for 53 years; mother of Jeffrey Paul and Janis Kay (Lassen); grandmother to five; and beloved sister to Kathy and Jill. Hundreds of piano students will remember her as a patient and inspiring teacher; others in her life as a gracious and loyal friend. She majored in Music at Virginia's Mary Washington College, where she was active as president, local chapter, of The American Guild of Organists. In Arlington, she took a job as Secretary to an 800-member Presbyterian Church. After marriage, she moved to Oreland, PA, where she did secretarial work, again, raised a family, and started a 45-year career in piano teaching. Love for students, and for attending orchestral events, continued through her years near Ithaca, NY, where she developed a passion for the out-of-doors, becoming president of a local hiking club; then in Gwynedd Valley, PA and Louisville, KY. Her final nineteen years were spent in Knauertown, Chester County, PA. Her sense of humor and openness with people brought many new friendships, especially at her church. Family and friends will gather at St Peter UCC, Knauertown, PA to celebrate Laura and her life, on Saturday, October 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to The American Cancer Society or St Peter UCC, where she sang joyously in the choir and, on occasion, played the piano and organ.

I will always remember this kind, smiling lady as “Mrs. H”, as I called her. She, and Mr. H., we’re truly two of the kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.

So many memories of laughs at choir and sitting around her table a home. Her talent on the keyboard was beyond wonderful and her smile always warmed my heart. We shared the piano beach so many times up until a week before she left us. I still carry in my pocketbook a letter she wrote me......

Aunt Laura was the proper lady. She played piano beautifully and was always gentile and kind to me. Visiting her and Uncle Bill in Kentucky was awesome. That visit helped me out as I was having a rough time with life. I still think of Aunt Laura and Uncle Bill often, especially while working in my garden.

I was so lucky to have you as my mother. Emotion emulated from the piano whenever your fingers touched the keys. I loved dancing while you played...

Laura Dear.
Though we were unable to visit each other because of our shared health problems, I know we always remained in each others thoughts and prayers. We walked together for a long time and I hoped and prayed that you would beat IT! A piece of me went with you. You and Bill will remain in our hearts forever. What a beautiful pair you made. You were the kindest, most gentle woman I ever knew. I have been blessed to call you my friend. Thank you. I know you are with HIM. (Lance must be happy to see you too!)

Laura was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was an outstanding pianist and teacher. Since our Pastor passed away, I haven't been to church so I was unaware of Laura's illness. I am so sorry I did not know so I could provide support to such a wonderful couple. You both will always be special to Tom and Me.

How can one find such a sister?
She was not to be found, but to be given, and for that I am eternally grateful to our heavenly Father.

Aunt Laura's life was a life of quiet beauty and humor. She never trumpeted herself, but instead spoke grace through her fingers——in her music. And not only that, but she taught so many others to do the same. Her memory and her legacy of grace lives on and on. And now the angels have a really good accompanist! Love to all the family, who ministered to her so beautifully.

Grandma you were the best piano player I ever knew and you played your feelings through your music, never one to complain even when you were going through chemo and all your treatments. I remember you once telling me you would play Motzart when you were mad :) you were so funny, inspirational, and full of joy I will miss you so much. I love you a lot, I just wish I got to tell you that. Everyime I play piano now, I think of you listening to me play and I hope I can eventually be half as good as you. You beat the cancer, youre with Him now r.i.p <3
