William Dawe Obituary
Red Hook - William Francis Dawe, June 25, 1955 ~ September 15, 2013…"Because Nice Matters".
Born in Yonkers, NY, to Jane Bryson McCormack and Arthur Ford Dawe, he lived his formative years there. Bill was a Manhattan College and Maryknoll School of Theology graduate. In 1979 Bill joined the Capuchin Franciscan Order, where he served the Church and God's people for 17 years.
He left public ministry in 1996 and assisted people as a financial advisor, eventually leaving the financial services field and finishing his career as the Director of Public Relations and Professional Liaison for Hospice and Palliative Care of Westchester.
Bill was known for his wit, welcoming personality, willingness to help, and his love of bringing people together. He will be sorely missed.
He is predeceased by his Father and Mother. Uncle Andrew McCormack and Aunt Mary Kochetta.
Bill leaves behind his two brothers; Arthur and Jon and their families, his dear friends, and his extended family.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm.
Calling hours will also be held on Friday, September 20th at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave., Yonkers, NY 10703 from 4 to 8 pm. .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY on Saturday at 11:30 am. Cremation will be private.
Memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester, 311 North St. White Plains, NY 10605.
Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY.

I only discovered now, at this very late date, about Bill's passing.
I actually addressed Bill as William , we grew up together
in Schlobohm and went to St. Joseph's and served as Alter Boys
and in the Boy Scouts.
My mom and Bill's mom were best of friends.
I was so honored to have Bill marry my wife Pat and I back in
1987, Bill was absolutely wonderful.
Bill was such a great person and will always be in our thoughts
The last time I saw Bill was in September of 2012 to pay
his respects at my mothers funeral, he was such a thoughtful
person.

I only learned of Bill's passing from the obits in the latest Manhattan College publication, as Accounting Majors at Manhattan we spent a lot of time together and there wasn't a nicer or kinder person on this earth. I never met Scott but I'm sorry for your loss. Scott I know Bill mentioned me to you kidding I was the love of his life. I'm sure you were great partners and I'm sure you miss him every day.

My deepest sympathies to Billy's brothers Arthur, Jon and family and to his partner Scott. I graduated from Sacred Heart High School with Billy in 1973. He really was an awesome person while always making you laugh or smile. It has been many years since I've seen Billy but whenever I think back to our years at Scared Heart he is always the first person I think of. Billy you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace.

As if she had Bill in mind, Emily Dickinson once wrote, "To live is so startling, it leaves little time for anything else."
I first met Bill on one of his Honduras trips in the early 1990's. I would never again meet someone who lived life so fully.
As all of the other heartfelt comments here attest, Bill was a great man who touched many lives.

My deepest sympathies to all of Billy's family and to his partner. I went all through school from first grade with Billy and I have wonderful memories of him. In third grade he used to walk me home from school all the time and he was the nicest, sweetest young man. We were always friends. Later in life we would run into each other here and there. The last time I saw him he told me he was really happy and I was happy for him! Surely the proof there is a God is that he gave Billy to all of us as a wonderful gift! I will never forget him.

I haven't seen William for many years. I love seeing his picture. I just remembered another William memory. When we were kids William got an instant camera. It was the first of its kind. William loved taking pictures of the gang. I remember him coating each picture with something. I bet he still has the pictures.

My deepest sympathies to the Dawe family. I knew Bill in high school and in college. He was a happy, joyful person. We car pooled together our first year in college with Doreen and Louise and we were always laughing. I have very fond memories of him. May your memories of him be a comfort to you.

Bill was a wonderful person; I remember our chats during the Community Health Care Gala Events. It was with a heavy heart and deep sadness learning of your sudden passing. Billy, my dear old pal. Even though we didn't spend much time together lately whenever I think of you I will always smile. Dear Scott - I'm so sorry for your loss. You and I had met at my cousin Janet's wake. I grew up with William in Schlobohm. I have many fond memories of him, one being him telling me that nobody called him William any longer. After I attempted to call him Bill several times (but had difficulty getting it out), he told me to stick with William. My prayers are with you, Artie, and Jon during this difficult time. My sincerest condolences to Bill's partner, Scott and to the rest of his friends and family. I, too remember his smile and his contagious sense of humor. We were friends as children and when I saw him again after many, many years, it felt like no time had passed. So sad to hear of Billy's passing. It seems like yesterday that Bill served as an altar boy at my wedding in 1966. I remember his excitement about this. Bill was probably the most down-to-earth person I've ever met, no pretenses with a kind and pure heart. My condolences to his partner, Scott, and Bill's family. RIP Billy.

Very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I will always remember him fondly as man who was passionate about his job,his co-workers and society in general. He made difficult work a little easier and he leaves behind many fond memories. He opened his home to all every year and filled the office with life. Although my heart is broken at the loss of my good friend, I think of Bill and laugh-as this is what we did when we were together. Who can forget Bill running around the friary making sure all was in place; or organizing chapters at Mont Marie. I think the best was him cooking steaks at his 50th birthday party the sweat was pouring off him. Yet what ever he did; he did it with a smile. You will be missed and Scott know of our prayers and support.
