On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our sincere condolences to Barbara, George, Jr., Brian, Richard, Christine, and Douglas, and all of Chief Banke's family and friends as you mourn his passing. May God whisper peace into your hearts, comfort, and heal them. We are grateful for George's service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service during WWII. He served on the battleship USS Arkansas BB-33 in 1941, the submarine USS S-17 SS-122 in 1941-42 and was a ‘Plankowner' on the USS Haddo SS-255, serving on her from 1942-45. He left the Navy as a ENC(SS). To our “Brother of the Dolphin” we say … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."
George William Banke, ENC(SS), US Navy, Now on Eternal Patrol.
