Dear Gennett and Dinga Family,
On behalf of the VCHS Class of 1964, please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dearest Lucy. I knew her as both Miss Gennett and Mrs. Dinga during very happy high school years. She was my cheerleading coach and mentor. Through her inspiration, we worked hard to lead others in cheering on the winning high school teams, and went on to win cheerleading competitions throughout the state ourselves. She worked regionally to bring cheerleaders together in order to foster sportsmanship during game play throughout the southern tier. She kept track of grads over the years and never seemed to lose her enthusiasm. She will be missed, but her legacy lives on.
Wow! Aunt Lucy, what an impact you had on others! I'm glad I got to know you so well. You were like a mother to me, you made me happy, and you helped me focus on the positives every day. You made me feel strong, helped me belive in myself and made me feel proud of who I am. Thank you for leading a honorable life as an examples to others. I love you and miss you! xo
Miss Gennett (as I knew her at Vestal High School) was an inspiration for me to become a physical ed. teacher. I was accepted by Cortland State, but could not afford the costs, as there was no student aid at that time. However, I later enrolled in a college that had a co-op program (RIT) and if it were not for her, I would not have a BS degree. She was both a friend and counselor to me. I shall never forget her!
Mrs. Dinga was a wonderful gym teacher at Glenwood Elementary who went crazy when I broke the class and school record for softball throw!! Loved her zest for life...
To the Dinga Family,
I remember well Mrs. Dinga as my Glenwood Elementary gym teacher--a classy gym teacher who made square dancing with the boys a bearable task!
Treasure your memories and the lives she impacted with her life.
Rest in Peace Godmother Lucy. I always felt so fortunate growing up that my parents chose you to be my Baptismal Godmother.
God bless you Aunt Lucy. You were such a beautiful person inside and out. RIP Love you, Mary Dinga Past-Denouden
If there are any memories I hold most dear, they are that of Mrs. Dinga, our beloved gym teacher at Glenwood Elementary! Us Glenwood Elementary alumni still talk about those days! Godspeed, Mrs. Dinga and thank you.
I am so sorry to hear of Lucy's passing. She was such a gracious Lady. She had given me a couple of her recipes that I liked. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
God bless Lucy. I loved her. I had done her nails for some time years ago. We'd talk about how I was in some home ec classes with her boys and talked some politics. She was smart and serious but kept it light enough, not to bring ya down. Positive happy Lady, and I mean Lady! Full of class! Loved her.
I wish the best for the Family and I will keep you in my prayers. with loving thoughts.

To the Gennett and Dinga Families, I was sorry to hear of Lucy's passing. I met Lucy when I first began teaching PE at Vestal in'62. She was a very enthusiastic teacher and person and fun to be around. I am sorry for your loss.

On behalf of the VCHS Class of 57 I extend our deepest sympathies to Joe and Lucy's family. We all loved "Miss Gennett" She was a class lady, with a wonderful sense of humor and loads of energy. She graced our 50th reunion and even lead us in a loud, vibrent cheer. An inspirational woman who will be remembered forever more.
With love and deep sadness, Jim O'Hora President VCHS Class of 57
