Uncle Roger is our last Patriarch of the Paoletti family.
I remember talking to Uncle Roger and telling him that he may become the Paoletti's first Centenarian. I really thought that he would make it to 100 and possible pass it. I guess he wanted to spend Valentine's Day with Aunt Tilda sooner versus later.
Uncle Roger was truly a man to mentor. He made a point to know his extended family and always took the time to greet each and every one of us and there are a lot of us. I guess we won't be getting a Christmas card from him this year. That makes me even more sad.
Memories:
Before our families got huge... we would all go to Aunt Tilda and Uncle Roger's house for Thanksgiving. All of us kids had a ball! The memories are wonderful and something to cherish. I can smell the chestnuts in the oven now, as I reflect.
I was a very lucky great niece. I spend quite a bit of time with my grandparents (Joe and Caroline) while I was younger. I was the only grandchild allowed to attend the bowling games with Grandpa Joe and my great Uncles (so I was told). I was given an opportunity to share in their weekly bowling tournaments. My great Uncles and my Grandpa Joe used to tell me that I was their lucky charm and I actually believed it. I recall worrying about them if I wasn't there. I also remember their reaction when I told them this. They didn't laugh at me. They each hugged me and told me that just knowing that I cared so much was like a prayer so whether I was there or not... the luck would be sent to them. The Paoletti family bond was deep and genuine with the immediate families straight though to our extended families.
The Paoletti's (all of them) had a way of showing what unconditional love was all about. Each and every member of the family was equally important. We all were made to feel as though we were the absolute favorite from each of our grandparents, aunts and uncles. This is a legacy to carry on. La Famiglia and what unconditional love truly is.
My heart aches for all of my cousin's, Aunts and Uncles over the loss of our last Paoletti Patriarch, Uncle Roger.
I am certain that there will be a grand celebration in Heaven welcoming Uncle Roger to their angelic tournaments of boce ball. I guess they needed another player right away.
God bless you all,
Love and sympathy,
Cousin Connie (DellaRocco)Ferragamo

Jean(and Don),
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in grieving the passing of your Dad (Father-in-law). Your Dad had lived a full life in the physical world. Now, he crosses over to continue a long spiritual life in warmness, love, and peacefulness of the Lord and family that has taken the journey before him.
Comforting hugs.
