Bill was one of my teachers at Fredonia High School during the 1950's. As a young teacher he guided and inspired many and I considered him A friend. My sympathy to his family.

....can't say enough good about this man..spent a lot of time in his office and looked forward to it every time ! He always remembered me even years after school. Always had a smile and a joke. He was a good man and will be missed terribly by all who knew him. The world is a lesser place without him. May the family find peace at this difficult time.
Sorry to hear about Mr.Distler have very fond memories of him as the principal. He will be greatly missed
I am sorry to read of Mr. distler's passing, I have. Nothing but fond memories of my daysat Newark Valley High School with Ms. Distler's as our Principal. A good man has gone to Heaven.
To John and the Distler family, please accept my condolences as I was sorry to hear of your loss. Mister D and I had a fairly unique student-principal relationship as I spent much more than my share of time being sent to his office. He had a great sense of humor and quite often my "punishment" was to tell him why I was sent to see him, we'd both have a laugh, he'd tell me I was a knucklehead and to go sit outside his office and head to class at the next bell! He got to single me out at assemblies as the well-meaning target of his corny attempts at jokes and that was a fair trade off for both of us. He was a genuinely caring and passionate administrator who truly wanted the best for each and every one of his "kids," even when some of us made that difficult. I did not know that he was wounded in the line of duty in the Korean Conflict but that doesn't surprise me at all as it's another sign of his strength of character and sense of duty. The world is down one fine man and each of us who knew Mister D will truly miss him.
I'm so sorry to hear the world lost a man who was always very cordial to me as my high school principal. He will be missed. My sympathy goes out to the family.
John and Mark, Sorry to hear you father's passing
