Mr. Stanbro was my mentor while I was a student at Lindenhurst High School. He was my football coach and wrestling coach and taught me many valuable lessons in my life. I raised my son using the same lessons that Mr. Stanbro taught me. He was a great inspirational leader who would get the best out of you whenever you had to wrestle. I remember losing a match with only a few second left and i heard Mr. Stanbro yell my name out and one look from him was all I needed-Game over. He will always be a big part of my life and the life of my family. I will miss him so much--So sorry for your lost-He was a great man-a man of honor and integrity

Sorry for your loss of a great guy! Our love of the outdoors spanned 47 years with many good times. Recently we talked seriously about medical issues. I will miss that smile, his exuberance, and that big voice. Good bye Jack!

Jack was my first wrestling coach at Ithaca High School! He became a mentor, a friend and role model! I spent a lot of time with Jack over the year and a half he coached in Ithaca! Seemed like I was working out with and/or being tutored daily. He even took me to spend several weekends with him and his family in Scott N. Y.! He took me to the World Championships in Ohio 1961, where he competed. He dislocated a hip during the match with Suchi Kwano, the reining world champion from Japan, continued to wrestle Kwano to a draw 1-1. Jack was the toughest man I ever knew! His influence brought me to attend Ithaca College and become a PE teacher and coach. I also, had the opportunity to teach with him as a clinician at several wrestling camps! More fun than a human being should be allowed to have. Needless to say, Jack was a tremendous influence in my life and I will miss him greatly. The song My Way was written for Jack! He did things his way and usually came out on top.
I offer my sincerest condolences to Sonia and his great family.

To the Family of Coach Stanbro,
My sincerest condolences on his passing......the memories go back to 1974; JCHS became a second home for those summertime practices and almost weekly Greco and Freestyle tournaments despite being a Catholic Central HS wrestler. I have such vivid memories of making the NY State Team at 105.5 and riding in the back seat of coach's station wagon all the way to Iowa..........coach treated me like one of his own. Thankful to have seen and talked to him at length at the States in Albany in 2016 with Ricky Gumble, we had a lot of laughs reminiscing about the old Section 4 days...
RIP Coach

Jack was a great coach and an ambassador for wrestling in our area. I didn't know what Freestyle was until I attended a clinic back in the early 70s in Johnson City where Jack was the instructor. My condolences to Tom, JJ, Kathy and the rest of the family.
