Henry David Weissmann, 74, of Binghamton, NY, died peacefully in his home on December 16 after a courageous 3 month battle with Melanoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol (Simons), and predeceased by a son, Denton. He is also survived by children, Mark (Tara), Scott (Catherine), Dori (Bill) Johnson; grandchildren, Devin, Jennifer and Cara, Ruthie, Elliott and Isaac, Samara and Maya; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Wilma) Simons; and his faithful dog, Derby. Henry was born January 9, 1936, in Mannheim, Germany, son of Fred and Erna Weissmann. A Holocaust survivor, he came to the United States with his parents when he was four years old where he grew up and built a thriving dairy farm in Harpursville, NY. He was a graduate of Harpursville Central School, Perkiomen Preparatory School and WV Wesleyan College. Special people in his life were his Farm managers and their families, Yasharians', Dickeys' and Masse's. He served as a Broome County Legislator from 9th District and after retiring from farming he went to work for Broome County, where he served as Manager of Risk and Insurance, Deputy County Clerk, Manager of Department of Motor Vehicles, and Director of Public Works. Following retirement from Broome County in December 2007, he worked for Nezuntoz Cafe, where son, Scott, is an owner. Henry never expected to retire and he worked up to two days before entering the hospital for his last bout with cancer. Always active in community affairs, he was founding President of Colesville Rotary Club, Past President and Treasurer of the Broome Tioga Holstein Club, member of Farm Bureau, Member of Afton Sertoma Club, Member and past Treasurer of Hillcrest Rotary. He served for 20 years on the Board of Education of Harpursville Central School. He served on the Boards of Children's Home of Wyoming Conference and Metro Interfaith Housing. For many years he and his family enjoyed hosting a variety of Rotary Exchange Students. He was an ardent fund raiser, whether managing golf tournaments or pancake breakfasts or flipping hotdogs and hamburger for various organizations. He loved sports and was quite an athlete in his day, playing football in college and coaching his children in later years. His love of sport was honored each year as Henry, Mark, Scott and friends traveled annually to NYC for the NCAA basketball tournaments. He also loved Broadway shows and was a long-time season ticket holder to The Cider Mill with many friends. He loved entertaining and planning parties. At Cayuga Lake he and Carol enjoyed years of wonderful weekends with their Stress Reduction friends. They shared memories with lake neighbors and White Elephant friends, also Bridge Club friends and Bridgeport breakfast and dinner parties and Canaan weekends with their WV family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Henry's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1100, Syracuse, NY, 13201, Children's Home of Wyoming Conference, 1182 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY 13901 or Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850. Special thanks to Hospice, UHS Rehab, Dr. Yalamanchili, Rabbi Goldman-Wartell from Temple Concord, Pastor Daniel Ling, Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church, friends who retrofitted the house, caregivers Doreen and Kim, and Vi Barriger, special foster daughter, nurse and savior extraordinaire, who allowed Henry to remain at home until the end. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Concord, 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton. Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Temple from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery, Johnson City. There will be a meal of consolation and Shiva from 4-6 at the Temple. This is Cara, his daughter. My dad was an amazing man. He taught me everything I know along with my mom. He put me under his wings and showed me the world. The impact he had on any person he met was astonishing. The way he could light up any room he walked into, leaving joy in every ones eyes. He was a father to all my friends and gave people the courage to dream bigger than themselves. It's crazy to believe he's gone but I'm proud to follow in his footsteps. The memories he left with the people he loved will be cherished and passed down for many generations. Those who got to know him are lucky. I was lucky to be loved by someone so amazing. A man who I looked up to. He was a good caring man and I'm honored to say he was my father; and my hero. His wisdom and impact will never be forgotten. Even though this angel has left our lives, he will always be in our hearts. May he rest in peace ?

Mark and family,
Hank was one of a kind, an energetic soul with boundless love for his family. He made a meaningful, lasting impact on the lives he touched, and in many ways was a role model. I am very sad that he is gone. I won't ever forget Hank's warmth, kindness and zest for life, and his eagerness to discuss/debate any number of topics of the day. God Bless.

Carol, Dori, Mark and Scott,
I send my deepest condolences!! Henry played such a huge part in where my siblings and I are today. I thank him and your family for supporting my parents for all those years. I have many fond memories of swimming in your pool and visits to the lake. The one and only time I ever water skied was with Henry. He was so patient and refused to end the day until I got up on the skis. It was brief but we accomplished the task at hand. I send my love and prayers!! Henry will be missed.

Carol and family - I was saddened to learn of Hank's passing. I remember working with Hank when I served as Colesville Town Justice in the 90's, and my wife and I were always happy later to see him behind the counter at Nezunto's bagel shop on Pennsylvania Avenue. We also recall socializing with him at the Ithaca Yacht Club - a fine, easy-going, man. Our sympathies to you in this time of sorrow.

Dear Carol, Mark, Dori, Scott and all those who loved Henry,
As my brothers, my Mom and my Dad do, I will always remember Henry. While he ended up on the losing end of most of our Thanksgiving football games, he was such an amazing winner in every other aspect of life. He will be remembered fondly, particularly as I continue to tell my children stories of my childhood, in which Henry and your family played a prominant part. My prayers are with you all.
