I just returned to town and heard about Bobby from a friend. My heart aches for his wife and family. I Worked at BDC for 27 years and Bobby was one of the nicest people I ever met there. He always had a smile on his face and a greeting each time he saw me...it didn't matter how many times a day we passed in the hall, etc. he always had a smile. If everyone was like Bobby what a wonderful world this would be.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers to all of the Purtell families. During the 14 years that we lived in Little Meadows, Pat and I and our sons, Mike, Dan, and James will remember Bobby playing softball at Howdy Jones ball park and the softball team picnics. Bobby was a thoughtful and generous man, and a true competitor. Pat and I will remember Bobby in our prayers. God Bless.

I worked with Bob at Tall Pines. I 'm the bartender there and Bob would come in after work, have a couple beers and harass me. It was fun and I am deeply saddened. My thoughts and prayers to his family . I know he loved you all. I will surely miss him. Jeannie Van Vleck

I have just learned of Bob's passing. Bob and his BDC group played in the city volleyball league I ran for so many years and Bob was one person that always looked forward to seeing each week and afterwards for social hour. He was always cheerful and he brought so much fun to everything he did.I am so saddened to hear of his loss, but feel so blessed to have known him. If everyone was like Bob, there would be no wars.

Dear Nora and family,

I extend to you my deepest sympathies over Bob's sudden passing. Bob and I became acquainted at PEF union conventions and every year I looked forward to visiting with him about the issues we had in common; he and his fellow stewards at the Broome Developmental Center, me at the West Seneca Developmental Center near Buffalo. He impressed me in many ways as he was earnest, dedicated to his members, and involved in the labor movement for all the rights reasons. It was apparent that Bob had a lighter side, although we usually discussed the many challenges that our members faced in preserving the quality of state services. He cared deeply about his community and it was a privilege to know him.

I am so sorry that Bob's retirement years were cut short so tragically. Those of us that knew him were aware that Bob was the genuine article; a solid citizen in every respect. I would ask that you also convey my condolences to his many friends in the union. Whenever I think of Bob, I will think of him well and with respect.

Once again, please accept my heartfelt sympathies.

To the Purtell Family,
I worked with Bob at BDC and played ball with him. He always had a smile and a kind word for all he met. He was one of those rare individuals who made everyone better just for knowing him. He always gave 100% whether at work or play. Thanks Bobby for making us all a little better. RIP My Friend.
