June 24, 1944 - November 2, 2012. Died peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. Preceded in death by loving and inspirational parents Bud and Helen Ratermann. Survived by his loving wife of 41 years Priscilla, his four sons, Ray (Luciana) of Roaming Shores, Ohio; James (Jill) of Ashtabula, Ohio; Mark (Yolanda) of Folsom, Calif.; and Christopher (Aimee) of Simi Valley, Calif. Doting grandfather to Evan, Marco, Stefano, Cole, Kendall, Hayden, and Kelsey. Beloved brother to Susie Mapes (Bob), Mary Ann Findlay (Don), Frankie Harper, Gina Sharar (Bill), Joe Ratermann, Peggy Ratermann, Mark Ratermann (Kathy), Theresa Ratermann (Fidel), Tricia Johnson (Dave), and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduation from St. Mary's College in Moraga, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer for three years in Togo, Africa where he developed a love of foreign cultures and world travel. One of the highlights was his hike across the Sahara Desert. Pete spent 20 years working first for Pacific Telephone in its early years of conversion to computerization and later for AT&T in international sales. After retirement he owned and operated a floor covering business in Santa Rosa. Throughout his life, Peter maintained an enthusiastic appreciation of current events, history, the arts and sciences... really of all things that reflected his contagious curiosity about world events in general. At Peter's request, there will be no graveside services. Viewing will be at Daniels Chapel of the Roses, 1225 Sonoma Ave, Santa Rosa on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Citrus Heights on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. with reception following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Make a Wish Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Research, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN.
