My condolences and the condolences of the 12th Cavalry Regiment Association to the family, friends and fellow troopers of Specialist Jake Robert Velloza. The duty and service of Specialist Velloza to his nation, the Army, the First Cavalry Division, and the 12th Cavalry Regiment will never be forgotten, and will always be honored in our memories and in the gatherings of our veterans.

We all individually and collectively mourn the great loss to us, to his friends, and to his family of such an outstanding Trooper. On his final ride to Fiddlers Green Jake is not alone; he is in the companionship of the fine and noble souls in uniform who preceded him on this ride and he carries with him the thoughts and prayers of those who served, and those who continue to serve today in the 12th Cavalry Regiment.

In the motto of the Regiment, SEMPER PARATUS – Always Ready.

We just came from the cemetary in Olema, Ca. where Jake is buried. Going there today was the only thing we wanted to do on this day. Paying tribute to Jake in this way was the best part of our day. On the way, and right in the middle of Olema, was a huge posted banner honoring him. It was so sublimely appropriate! Thank you to whoever put that banner there! At the burial plot, we felt certain that Jake was and is dearly beloved. Items left at the grave stone indicated that many had been there. Some today...and others before...each of us remembering this beautiful soul who touched so many lives both in life and in death. My son loved you dearly. He has a tatoo on his arm. It says "Jake Velloza". Like my son's forever tatoo, your name, and all that it stands for, will remain forever in our hearts. God Bless you dear heart Jake...and God Bless your mother and father.

May God bless SPC Jake Velloza and his family and fiance. Freedom isn't free and SPC Velloza and his family have paid that unbelievable cost for the rest of us.

I have "adopted" the veterans at the cemetery at Olema, and have been putting up flags on all their graves for the past decade or so. I will take special care to insure that Jake always has a flag on his for memorial day and veterans day.

Re: SPC Jake R Velloza

I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 3,290 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 245 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at Projectcompassion@manti.com or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

Man I can't even tell you how much you meant to my family. My daughter still asks where you are and all I can say is he is a HERO and is in heaven with Grandpa Nation, and Grandma Brenda. We talked about doing the Bounty/Bail Bonds business where we could go out and hunt the fugitives that skip out. I just want to say that no matter what you were a great friend to me and my family and I considered you family.

To Mr and Mrs Velloza
It has been has been three months and it seems like I just got the news. I cannot begin to imagine the pain you must be feeling. I am truly sorry for your loss. Jake was my friend in my platoon. When he was killed it was us who carried him to the plane in mosul. It was an honor I loved him like a brother and will miss him as one. He was often at the house, we would be under the hood trying to make that little Evo faster. I want you to know he talked about you often. He loved his family and always had a good story about his life. He was truly a one of a kind guy. I want you to know he will AllWAYS be remembered by me. His friends will never forget him. We (F.I.S.T.) will never forget. You raised a son who grew to be a man. He was an honerable and brave man. He will live forever in our memories. His picture hangs on my wall so that I never forget (why) as soldiers we do this. May you know that we all are better for have known him . He was taken much too young. Thank you for raising such a fine young man. SPC G.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Bob, Susan, May, Richard, Mike and the rest of the family,
There simply are no words that will ever adequately explain the death of a young man, a son, grandson and nephew whom you all loved and will miss forever.
I can only add my sympathy and the prayer that you all find the power to heal as best you can and as fully as possible. May your healing come quickly through the love of those close and the understanding that there were many that loved Jake.
Please do the best you can to care for yourselves during this time. Your friends, your families and your neighbors are truly there for you at any hour, even those of us that have long since moved away.
May 12, 2009
I am so sorry no words will every be enough, just know that his sacrifice will not be forgotten. This is something I wrote for my son the morning he left for Irac, I just could not sleep after he left. I also had to call him tonight and told him I loved him and was proud of him, just because.

My Son is leaving for Iraq today.
He feels he is doing the right thing for his country

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

When he wanted to join the military, I asked him why and he told me.
I told him son you could die over there, he said he could die over here, and if it was his time, this would be for his country and there is no better cause.

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

I spent last night remembering him as a baby, little boy and young man.
And in-between crying a little bit for what was. He grew up so fast.

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

He has to go this was his choice, like he said Mon ?it was inevitable?.
He said he wasn't afraid, so I was not to be afraid either.

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

I am proud of my son and nephews, and all the men and women who are doing what they feel is right.
They are proud to severe this country.

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

I am proud to come from a family with a long history of men and women who have served in this country?s military. They, like our young now have stood true. It?s is so hard as a mother but how can I do other-wise but live by the courage that is so prevalent in this family and every family out there with someone serving.. I have done this in the past when my older son was serving and I will do so now.

I do not like it, but I will stand true.
As all of our men and women in the military do.

Written for all the members in this family and every family who have ever served in the military defending our right's as American's

To the parents and family, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to hold your hand as He gives comfort to you today and for the rest of your life.
