John JENSEN Obituary

Longtime Sonoma County resident John (Jack) Jensen passed away on December 26, 2012, of end-stage Parkinson's disease resulting from his military service. He was 78 years young. He was born to John (Joe) and Nellie Jensen in rural Minnesota in 1934. He graduated from Hoffman High School in 1952 and served in the military for 21 years. While in the Army, he attended MSOE (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and various other commendations during his military service. He retired from the military in 1975 and settled in Sebastopol, where he enjoyed raising his family, training horses, working on the ranch, and continuing his education in farm-related classes through the Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University. He was a long time member of Golden Gate Arabian Horse Association and an active leader in his local 4-H organization. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, their four children, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, one brother, and many nieces and nephews. His strength, compassion, and humor will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held on January 20, 2013, from 2-6:00 p.m. at the Hessel Grange in Sebastopol, California. Memorial donations may be made to the Sonoma County C.H.A.N.G.E. Well dad it's been some time. You must be catching up with Michael. He was lost to early to. I miss you dad, I live you. Try to always do what you think was right. Maybe I do maybe I fall short but I love you u live min and our family. Desi and Kelly, Hudson, Riley and Kacey are living here with mom and I. I have my own place living alone is weirdly challenging. Been recovering but so many stupid injuries but we sort of had a virus down here on earth. Kept doctor's involvements to help get cortisone shots or leg injuries looked at difficult. Trying to start again pops. It's better but sometimes harder. Miss you God Bless you.

HHello John, Happy Thanksgiving, I know this was one of your favorite holidays, lots of family, friends, and laughter. Of course the mashed potatoes, scalloped corn and turkey were pretty good too! Ted and Edna's turkey, pies etc were all so good and lots of fun, always a challenge to see if we had enough mashed potatoes. I remember the first Thanksgiving we had together in Pittsburgh, Pa out at the base. It was the first time I had met Harvey and Ginny Colsinger from Georgia, what a couple, I think they had five kids, Mary lou and Glen Elrod and the guy from down south, I only knew
his name as Hanks, he always wanted country music not the horn blowned music. What characters!!!! So what would you be doing today if you were here in body? I bet watching the news and eating too much, I misws you so much John, for one time in my life it seems I have time to think and reflect on our time together, we really did okay, ups and downs but still a good life. I hope you are looking down on all of us and figuring out what to do when I get there. I love you and always will and I am profoundly grateful for having our time together, your wife Jeri (by the way a belated Happy Birthday) 80 years young!!!!!

November 11, 2014

Hi John Jensen, I had to read your posts again, and talk to you. I miss you, love you, and having a heck of a time getting to sleep sometimes as I keep reaching for you. I have been busy in the yard and I still have gutters to clean. We had rain the other day and it made everything look so clean and shiny. I heard from Kitty the other day and I get a call from Glen and Sue once in a while and also from our old friends. I had a call from Norman and Marie the other night and they had seen a coyote take down a deer in our orchard. Sounds like the wild wild west... I see the birds flying around here, ( some old crows) ha and I think you must be keeping an eye on us. I can't tell you how very much I miss you, I remember the times we moved, kids, dog and cat in the car, driving late at night cause the kids would sleep then. All the people we met at all the different posts we lived, I guess I would have to say Germany was my favorite. As a young person I never thought I would travel so much but I really enjoyed our life together. The kids were always after us to put our memories down in writing I guess I will have to do that, even about our honeymoon. Well love it is 11:30 at night and I am tired, so I will call it quits for the this time. Hey I have to tell you about Sturgen Mills, I don't know why we never went out there before, but Cindy, Phebe and I went in September, Harvey Hennigsen's family was very involved in the mill, we saw Jim Lerum out there with a team of his draft horses. He had just come back from Minnesota with a new addition for his herd of draft horses. He and the peoples that bought our old place are friends and I think Jim takes jousting lessons from William. OK love this time I am heading for bed. take care love and see you soon. your wife, jeri

I know it has been a while since I have written, but just so busy at work! I miss you very much and think of you everytime I am with the ponies. I share all all my memories of you with my two horse friends - how you trick trained - could mount bareback with you hands behind your back - pick up your hat while mounted-and lets not forget about the dog house :0 Moved Ace and Moj out to my barefoot trimmers place (20 acres) and moved FRanky back to Patti's - the place I took you when I had Michelle out for vetting just down the road from Pheobe. I was worried he would ahve a hard time adjusting since he had been a Jane's for a year...but he settled right in and the girls at the barn just love him - not to mention he is in a paddock next to a mare named Prom Queen! Well, got to go - you are still going out on all my trail rides! Had to move you though, the horse treats were sqishing you - Love JO-JO

Thinking of you Dad, while life is not the same without you, I still think you you are just in a different part of it. Think about you lots..Cindy

January 28, 2014

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Hello there John Jensen, We made it through the holidays, but I certainly missed your ahem guidance at Christmas!!!!
So, I know you have been on some trails rides, Pam tells me all about it, pretty cute , huh? One year has gone by but I still sense your presence for which I am happy for, it would be yery dull indeed. Aunt Darlene fell the day before Christmas and broke her hip but she truly sounded good. DuWayne is in the hospital again in International Falls but he also sounded pretty good. It was 37 below zero there the last few days. I talked to Gary and he had a bad cold, but was on the mend. Remember the Christmas Eve Dinners at Grandma and Grandpa Smith? Lots of love and laughter. It was fun for me to have you see what I was trying to tell you about Christmas. Phebe's birthday is tomorrow and her daughter-in-law Connie and Phebe and I are going out for dinner someplace simple. Cindy is having a heck of a time with dental problems but still trying to be helpful. I could go on and on but I guess I will call it quits for today. John, I love you, you are always in my thoughts and I will talk to you soon.
Love and Kisses, your wife, Jeri

We love you Pops...(and I also think you are up there riding on oceans of such beauty, maybe even with Flicka, the first horse you ever had.

November 11, 2013

Hey Dad..I just wanted to tell you how much I love you. How I remembered how you always wished for us love, and a happy life. Also remember how simple you thought that was. I try to remember that....I think most of the kids do. Happiness was one of the most important things to you and knowing that we were loved. The importance of family. I try my best to do well with that one..I hope your looking down and saying I am doing "better then nothin".:) You always had a smile and I keep in mind that why not, you know? We do miss you, we love you. Mom is really important. I know she misses your constant smile, and your loving heart. I know I do to.

Well Pops - Another Tevis completed and 1900 pounds of water carried to ponies at RRR! Hope you like the pic that Dezi added. It is atop Cougar Rock looking back down at the trail. Was a hot day for the riders and they lost one horse at Cougar due to a fall and neck injury. I think I will pass on attempting to do this on a leased horse when I am 60, as some of the ponies look so tired at mile 28 of 100. Was a very interesting hike/jog out and back , not to mention some semi-serious off road driving for me...I could have filmed a "Ford Tough" commercial! I have another pic attached of the ascent up Cougar(excuse my finger in the upper right - was pretty tired and had no water - plus trying to focus with the iPod )and a another view from the top. I plan to visit Ragle park next week with you and Whoopie, as I know you loved to walk her there. Love ya! Jo-Jo

July 26, 2013

Dad, you always knew when you returned in another life, it would be as an eagle. Thanks to your first beloved daughter Jo-Jo, you can now spread your wings and fly as high and far as you've always dreamed. The new adventures you are about to embrace are wistful and wondrous. Thank you my dear sis for giving Dad what he wanted most – a new place to call home. Love you, Desi

July 24, 2013

Hey pops! It is just about 2 weeks before I head up to Tevis to volunteer at Red Star Ridge ( I had Mom buy more sponging buckets!!). Going off road a little, so will make sure that I take extra care with you and Whoopie. I thought you would enjoy seeing a picture of Franky. Maggie has already started riding lessons. She could very well carr on the love of horses in the family. I miss you and think of you everytime I take the ponies out. Rode Mojo bareback with a halter for about 2 hours of my ride yesterday at Pt. Reyes. I told me friend Cynthia that you would be so proud seeing me out riding without a bridale or saddle. Not as easy to sit a trot when you are over 50!! Take care - Love you and Miss you - will send you a pic of where you and Whoopie got to go on "vacation" at Tevis - Love Jo-Jo

I just want to say that the Father's Day message is so well written & a deep message of love. A great testament to your character

June 18, 2013

Dad,
Today is a day when families take time and honor their Dads both young and old. A day on which we slow down, idle the craziness, and give thanks and recognition for all that our fathers do. Know your unconditional love, support, and wisdom make us who we are today. Your impact on us didn't stop when you physically left this earth. Rather your strength, humility, and kindness continue to define us every moment of everyday, imparted on ours now and for generations to come. Surmise to say that today is no different than any other. You are remembered fondly, cherished deeply, and never forsaken. We love and miss you as always.

June 16, 2013

Hey Dad, we still have your Shadow Box with the American Flag, and that Bronze Star of yours along with other medals of valor. I have to tell you I had never understood what the bronze star really meant until recently. To understand you had put your life on the line for another was not surprising, but rather a pleasant reminder of the man I knew growing up and through my adult life. How could anyone, may I selfishly say, ever compare to you? Love you, thinking about you lots. Cindy

May 27, 2013

Hey you, here's to you and special honors today. You were quite the fellow and quite the soldier. We are extremely proud of you, love you, and grateful for having you in our lives.

March 31, 2013

To the Jensen family - thank you for sharing your Dad with me when I needed a father figure most. Uncle John gave me love, stability and uncompromising standards at a very confusing time in my life. I always held his goofy smile, bright eyes, and missing tooth grin in my heart during difficult times after that golden spring with your family. Unk - I miss you - but I KNOW you are watching over us all.

March 15, 2013

Missed you today. Thanks for helping my wishes come true every day. Hudson, Kacey, Riley and Kelly say hello and want you to know how much you are missed.

Good night, God bless you, I love you . . .

March 14, 2013

I can't help but see you in others . . . when I'm walking down the street, driving in cars . . . where ever I am. Dad, I miss you.

March 10, 2013

Dad, no matter what the view, your strength thrives in each of us with force, potency, and cogency. Your moral power, firmness, and courage, sustains us mentally, spiritually and physically. We carry your reason of influence and authority and resistance to force, strain, and wear. Your vigor of action, language, and feeling are not lost, and your encouragement and power to rise or remain firm carries us.

In other words, your strength is like scotch, which far exceeds that of wine.

Love you to infinity and miss you eternally with no tomorrow.

Wayne and I just finished watching the video presented at John's memorial. Beautiful, moving and captured the man and his many good traits. Just think, for a couple of poor kids from rural Minnesota, John and Jerri built this beautiful family, saw a lot of the world and packed so much in their years together.Thank you Jensen family for sharing.

Hi Dad,
It has been one month since you left us. It still doesn't seem real. Today was Riley's Baptism. When the candle wouldn't work for the Deacon, I laughed to myself thinking you must have had a hand in it. We all love and miss you so much.

Uncle John- I will always remember how fun you were and how good you were to your nieces and nephews. We loved you! The stories and the teasing is what comes to mind when I think of you. You will be very deeply missed ?

In loving memory of the greatest neighbor one could ever find. John was a true gem. I will carry that twinkle in his eye and his heart of gold with me forever. Many, many thanks for all your help over the 3 decades we shared as neighbors. Rest in peace my dear friend. I'm sure you are already "riding the range" and appreciating your new life.
With sincere sympathy to the Jensen family for your loss.

Our Tribute to Uncle Jack from the Oregon Jensens: Uncle Jack was a memorable and bright spot in our childhood and adult lives. We remember his visits to our family farm in Lacomb Oregon. He inspired us with his energetic/happy disposition and he entertained us with drawings (of horses, of course). We loved his visits and always looked forward to being around him and later on all of this included his lovely wife Jeri...the friendship and "spark" they shared as a couple set a good example for us. We are so sorry and sad to lose another amazing Jensen family member....He and his brothers and sisters made this world a better place...and certainly made a big difference in our lives!
Our deepest sympathy to all his family and friends,
David, Karen and Lois along with our spouses Sandi, Richard and Steve who share in our loss of a great Uncle

Uncle Jack had a profound influence on many people just by being himself. Mother always shared the news in his and Aunt Jeri's letters with love and pride. As a child he became a larger than life figure to me. When I met him in person I was not disappointed. He will always remain in my heart an exrodinary person who brightened a room just by being there. Gods Blessings to all who love him and especially to Aunt Jeri and my cousins. Love and prayers, Nancy(Nordin) Kauzlarich

We only had the privilege of getting to know John in the later stages of his life. His grace, in the face of unquestionable suffering, is a true testimony to his character & undying spirit. I will remember him as a person of great courage & love for his family.
