Russell was born on May 30, 1922, in Petaluma, California, the fourth and youngest child of Henry "Harry" Thomas Anderton and Alleta (Lewis) Anderton. For much of his life, Russell lived in San Francisco at the Alexander Hotel. As his health began to fail in 2008, he moved to San Rafael, where he took up residence at the Country Villa Healthcare Center. Russell lived a unique life, filled with stories of mystery and intrigue, as he created his very own life which gave him many stories that he loved to tell to family and friends. Russell survived his three siblings, Margaret Anderton Smith, Henry Thomas Anderton, Jr., and Mary Louise Anderton Klemenok. He is survived by two nephews, Darol Irwin Smith of Napa and Henry Thomas Smith of San Rafael, a niece, Janet Klemenok Dunton of Sand Point, ID, and a first cousin, Althea (Larson) Torliatt of Petaluma. A special thanks to the staff of the Country Villa for the care Russell received during the past four years. And, a very special thank you to Irma Diaz, a health care worker at Country Villa, for the personal and kind care that she showed Russell in his last years of life. A private graveside service was held in memory of Russell on Friday, December 21, 2012, at Cypress Hill Memorial Park in Petaluma. Rest in peace, Uncle Russell.
