McDONALD, GERALD B. JR. 85 - of Marlton, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2013 with his loving care-givers; his wife Jeanne (nee Pranis) of 62 years, daughter Kathleen of Voorhees, and son Michael of Port Monmouth. Devoted father to daughters, Eileen (Martinson) of Newton, PA and Elizabeth (Atikinson) of San Francisco. Caring brother of Sister Anne McDonald, Sally Saharko, and the late John, Peter, Mary and Pat. Dear grandfather of Stephen, Melissa, Brian, Kelsey, and Tracey and great grandfather of Travis. Jerry graduated from both Seton Hall Prep and University and then proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army in the Korean War. Jerry then had a very successful career as a Sales Executive in the Publishing and Printing Industries that spanned over five decades. Subsequently residing in Middletown Township after his service, Jerry served as the Grand Knight of the Red Bank Council of the Knights of Columbus in 1960. During his 25 years as a resident of Delran, Jerry was very dedicated to serving the local communities of Delran and Riverside. He served a 3-year term on the Delran Board of Education, was the Chairman of the Delran Parks & Recreation Committee and was President of the Delran Athletic Association. He also served as the Athletic Director of the Riverside Police Athletic League (PAL). One of Jerry's true passions was umpiring little league baseball and officiating youth basketball. Jerry served as the Chief Umpire for both the Delran and Riverside Little Leagues. He also had coaching stints with the Riverside 125-pound football team, Delran 85-pound football team and Delran girls softball program. Jerry was also a member of the South Jersey Umpires Association. After retiring to Ocean City, NJ, he also served as Chief Umpire for the Ocean City Little League and managed the Ocean City Golf Course and Aquatic Center. He then pursued his other passions of protecting sea life and collecting trains. Serving as a Docent for the Marine Mammal Stranding Society in Absecon and the Wet Land Institute in Stone Harbor. Jerry was a charter member of the Shore Line Railroad Club and a member of the Jersey Train Collector Association. After a move to Ponte Vedra, FL, Jerry served as a Docent for the 73,000 acre GTM National Estuarine Research Reserve between Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine and was a resident member of the Sawgrass Country Club. Jerry was also tendered the title of "The Colonel" by the Naval Academy Class of 1980 for his great tailgate parties at Annapolis football games, his Army-Navy football post game parties at his home in Delran and being a "home away from home" for many a Midshipman who could not travel home for weekends. His dedication and love to all his interests and his ability to light up a room will be missed greatly by all. Interment will be private.
