Hi Sonny, its been over a year now and you are truly missed. We are always talking about you especially this year when March rolled around and we did not have the Old Skool Party, it did not seem the same. This week i am up at Ft Lee taking a class in the ALU bldg and i ran into Karen and it was so nice to see her. She looks good. We talked for a minute and we hugged and kissed each other. She misses you but I told her each day will get better just keep thinking of the good times. If you were here I know we would have had lunch or dinner somewhere. Love you man and I will talk to you soon. Ohh this weekend is your Class Reunion c/o 1979 and all the fellas will be in town (Mitch, Hawk, Mark, Renaud, and the list goes on, we will party for you in your memory. A year has passed since you left us and just want you to know you are missed by many. As you know, life goes on and we now have summer behind us and heading into what I think is the best time of the year "autumn". Week one of the NFL season just passed and everyone is expecting the best for their team and dreaming of heading to the Super Bowl! We miss you, brother.
One year today. RIP Big AL. We miss you.

Went to the Jazz Festival last week. On Saturday, I went to get a beer at the beer tent. On my way to the tent, I ran into Keith and said, "Come on let's go have a beer for Big Al." When we go to the tent we met Bernard. I don't think it was by accident that we all met in the same area at the same time. It was fate! We got our drinks and proposed a toast using your words..."There a big ships and there are small ships, but ain't nothing like friendship!" Your legacy lives on! You are missed my brother.
Missing and Loving you always.
The Richmond Jazz Festival is approaching in a couple weeks. I will miss seeing you at there. Shared some good times there over the years. Take care my brother. Brundy
I Love and Miss You!!! Rest in Peace.
I Love and Miss You. Greetings on Father's Day!!
This weekend is the Capitol Jazzfest weekend in Columbia, MD, an event that we never usually miss. I pondered so long on the fact that I would be attending it without you that the entire weekend sold out. I know that you are there in spirit. This was always a highlight of the year because the music and venue are great and because we would see so many great friends.
When someone you love passes away, every event that you attend after that is like the anniversary of attending that event for the first time alone!!!!! Profound. Love and miss you always.
I Love and miss you terribly!!!! I proudly honor your memory and your service of 27 years in the U. S. Army....... Job well done.
Missing You!!!!! I Love You....
The Run for the Fallen was May 3, 2014 on Fort Lee. Friends, co-workers, Matacoa High School and the Kappas were representing you well. Great job ACS!!!! Thanks to everyone who participated and for those who were there in spirit. Love you all!!!

Missing you Sonny. I never realized how hard it would be to attend events alone after spending 31 years attending them with you, It is truly a special thing when you are able to spend your life with someone who loves and supports you. I was blessed to be able to experience what some people spend a life time searching for. You were a joy to be around. Always positive and always upbeat. We treasure your memories and we treasure you.
I miss you Big Al! You never missed a day in the Gymn at the War College for that whole year. Seeing you and talking everyday was a joy. When you departed for Iraq through Fort Bliss we had a great time before you deployed. You always gave of yourself to others and provided a grace that I will always cherish.
Happy Birthday, Big Al! You are missed daily.
It is hard to believe that it has been over six months since you passed away. I never thought that you would not be here for your 53rd birthday!!!!!!! We will remember all the great birthday parties for you at the Regimental Club on Fort Lee. It was a family, military, friend and class reunion all in one. We will celebrate your Birthday by remembering all the great times that we shared as a family and with lots of friends. We will have a lot of great times to share. We miss and love you so very much. Happy 53rd Birthday!!!!!!! Rest in Peace. Love and miss you!!

Missing you terribly my dear friend. I had my retirement ceremony recently and often thought of the great fun times we shared. We needed you here but GOD needed you more. RIP my dear friend.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!!! I love and miss you very much.
Missing you Sonny.
It is Superbowl weekend....we are usually getting ready for a big Superbowl party!!!!! We miss your smiles and hugs- We speak daily about all the wonderful memories with you. You are truly loved and missed. You are a great example of what a responsible loving husband and father should be. We love you.
Miss you much and we exchange great memories daily. Love you always.
Miss you so much Big Al. Fort Lee is not the same. Think about you everyday I go by the SCOE building . No more bear hugs, no more days of going back and forth about" doing the right thing" and being at the "right place at the right time", trying not to compilment you or notice you when you entered the room. that was almost impossible. You had such a big presence about you. I can't believe it and sometimes I find myself looking for you. I say "why" and then God answers with why not....He needed you more. RIP and much love to your family and I hope that they find peace with all the wonderful memories. Gone but never forgotten. Like family we have some good days and some bad days but I wont complain. Missing you. Ms. Hairston
A great loss, what a wonderful man. Rest in peace, XO.
Deb and Dave Junior

Your name and reflections were abundant this Christmas. The house was filled with, this is what Dad would have said or done. We are trying to stay positive and that is easy when we are sharing many memories of you. We love and miss you. I know that you are watching over us. You made us better people.

Your girls.....Karen, Alexis and Aaren
I was shocked to hear of Big Al's passing. I never met a more positive person and officer. He touched so many lives. May God comfort his family in their time of sorrow.
Words could never explain life long first impressions. To me he was Captain Davis...Ft Jackson SC August of 89. Imagine the shock as I am watching TV and see him on a Cross Roads Ford commercial years later...and I yell out that's my Commander!!! Just out of high school, he seemed so big and scary, of course it wasn't the case. Having grown up in this area I have occasionally run across him, unfortunately I never shared the story with him... He is a part of history of the lives of so many soldiers, and in that he will always live on. To Mrs. Davis and girls, I say thank you for sharing your husband/father with the world. I send my sincere condolences and will keep you in continued prayer. May GOD hold you tight in comfort.
I have had a hard day today. I am missing you terribly. Love you much. Your wife, Karen.
It is 01November and I can't believe that you have departed this earth almost two months now. I miss you terribly, but I know that you are in a better place now. We speak of you every single day. We remember how happy you always were and how you had inspirational words for every occasion. Jazz music always brings back memories of you and your true spirit leaves on in your daughters. We know that you are with us every step we take. We all still cry and long for you, but know that all the great memories that were made are still embedded in our hearts. You were truly an amazing husband, father, son, uncle, friend, mentor....well just an amazing person. There will never be another like you. You left very big boots to fill. your beautiful hazel eyes attracted me to you, but your big heart pulled me in. I will always love you. I am trying to be strong and take care of our daughters and your mom. Please give me a sign that you are ok every now and then.
I love you with all my heart. I will make you proud.
Your boys, fraternity, ROCKS, ALU, Fort Lee, community, family and friends and too many to name have been very supportive. I know that you are smiling down on them. Until we speak again...save a two step and a kiss for me. Love always.....your wife Karen.
Dear Karen: Aneesah told Joyce and I today of your Sonny's passing. We were so sorry to hear this sad news. I know how very much your eyes would light up when you spoke of him. Please know that we are keeping you and the girls in our prayers. You have great faith and that will sustain you. I am sure that Sonny is watching over the three of you each and every day.
Sincerely, Donna Bigley
MAY THE BEAUTIFUL SOUL OF MY COUSIN, ALEXANDER,
LIVE ON ETERNALLY.

You are truly missed and deeply loved. We are trying to follow your example of living life to the fullest. We know that you will be with us all the way. Alexis, Aaren and I will cherish your memory. Rest In Peace.
LOVE ALWAYS..your wife Karen.
I recall Col Davis from our time in Baghdad, as a wonderful man, a great leader and a good friend. He will be missed.
A beloved leader and friend
Dear Karen and Girls
We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Big Al's passing. I served with the Colonel at Fort Lee and again when he was my direct boss in Iraq. One of my enduring memories of Big Al was how deeply happy and contented he was in Iraq after being on the phone to his girls. I also remember how proud he got when he saw his little girls growing up in photos, he just could not believe it. He loved you all so much! I also loved the look of blissful satisfaction he would get when just the right jazz tune would play, he had such passion. He used to talk about opening a jazz club and I would always say he needed me to be the barman. This exchange played out one last time in May this year when I emailed him while I was in the Bennett's Lane Jazz Club, Melbourne as the music played my thoughts turned to him on the other side of the world. He straight away emailed me back and asked to see photos of my kids. Also, in that email in May, he said he would love to visit us on the Gold Coast and although that chance may have passed, Georja and I would be honoured to have you and the girls Down Under any time. Big Al was a great leader, great friend and a great man. He meant a great deal to me and many others around the world.
TO THE FAMILY OF COL. DAVIS. I FELT I NEEDED TO POST WORDS OF COMFORT TO THIS FAMILY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE TO HAVE SIGNED A GUEST BOOK. EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T KNOW HIM. I WISH THE WORLD HAD MORE PEOPLE LIKE HIM. SO MANY WONDERFUL WORDS FROM SO MANY PEOPLE AND FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. IT'S JUST "AWESOME". IT'S ONE PHRASE THAT I THINK OF WHEN I THINK OF COL. DAVIS AND SOMETHING HE WOULD SAY "LET THE WORK THAT I HAVE DONE SPEAK FOR ME" R.I.P COL. DAVIS
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Davis family. I mourn the lost of a great man, friend and Soldier.
~To the Davis Family~

To the Davis Family - I am blessed to have the opportunity of seeing Big Al within 5 hours of Angel Wings - Big AL was walking in our work area and since he is so tall - you could see him above our cubicals - I said " Hey Sir" and Big Al turned around and said "Hello" but he didn't stop with just a Hello - he walked over to me and gave me a hug and then he greeted all my co-workers and gave us "words of encouragement" then I saw him again walking out the building Friday - I came to work Monday and was informed Big Al was in Heaven- family I love you because you instilled blessings that Big Al shared with us
Sonny "is" a great father, husband and friend. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He lived his life everyday as if he had to do as much as possible to maximize his time to spend time with everybody he possibly could. He loves me, and "his girls". And he did everything possible to make sure that we and a great deal of others are happy and comfortable. He loves his family, friends, Kappas, VSU family, his boys, his job, Fort Lee, jazz, golf.................LIFE!!!!!!! He will live on in the heats of many people because he has a heart of GOLD. Remember him by learning to cherish each moment of life by taking the time to positively touch every person' s path that you cross. Remember him by going the extra mile to make every person the most important person at the time that your paths cross.
"Sonny" has continued to watch over us! We will continue to remember the good times because we only had good times. He is the definition of a "great" black man. Rest In Peace.
With all my love, your wife (Karen)

LIFE IS NOT MEASURED BY THE BREATHS YOU TAKE, BUT BY THE MOMENTS THAT TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY. SINCERE AND HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES ARE EXTENDED TO THE DAVIS FAMILY DURING THIS TIME OF SORROW. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU, AS WE CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF A DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN, WHO WAS LARGER THAN LIFE, ITSELF. HIS SMILE AND HIS BIG HANDSHAKES WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED, ALONG WITH HIS WORDS OF WISDOM TO ALL WHO WERE BLESSED TO MEET HIM.
"WELL DONE, SIR!"
TO THE DAVIS FAMILY,
PLEASE ACCEPT MY HEARTFELT SYMPATHIES FOR YOUR LOSS. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DURING
THIS DIFFICULT TIME. COL DAVIS (BIG AL) WAS A GREAT MENTOR AND FRIEND, WHO WILL BE TRULY MISSED.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
COL "Big Al" Davis was a champion of a man, and a great Army officer. I served with him at Fort Lee and later in Iraq. As we flew into Baghdad for the first time, everyone was nervous, but Big Al just looked at us with that calm smile of his and said "I'm going to take a nap - wake me when we land." He was a genius at motivating those around him, and was always calm under pressure. He had a way of making you feel like you were his best friend. I liked to be around him and I'll miss him. I hope that it is a small condolence to the Davis family that Big Al touched a lot of lives and made a difference.
Oh Sunny D., how your leaving us has touched me. I remember you fondly hanging around the house while growing up with my brothers Tony and Van. I saw you again in Cairo years ago and from time to time on FB. We will all miss you. So young, but our Father knows best! My heart-felt condolences to your family, especially your mother. Rest in Peace.
May God blessing be upon the family in your time of trail and sorrow. He will be truely missed.
To The Family Of Sonny,
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
You'd no doubt walk up to heaven
And bring him home again. Your loved one will always
Be as close as a memory,
And the God of all comfort
Will always be as
Close as a prayer.
To the Davis Family,
My deepest condolences during your time of bereavement. Big Al will truly be missed.
For "Big" Al's Family: We are praying that Holy Spirit comfort and give you perfect peace during this time of sorrow. May God soon Bless you all with only the very best memories of his life.

To Al's Family, I had only met Al once at my cousin Keith's house last Family and Friends Day in Aug 2012. Al was such a warm and friendly individual. My sister called me early this week to tell me the sad news, and I am still trying to comprehend what she told me. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.
My Colonel...May the Lord receive you in his Kingdom and give you eternal peace.
Mr. Davis was everyone's brother and everyone's true friend.
God bless the family of Retired Colonel Alexander Davis of Chester,VA
To Karen and all of Al's family, I am so sorry and deeply saddened by the loss of what had to be the love of your lives, and pray God will give you the strength and comfort you need to carry on. The mere presence of Al with that golden smile and genuine heart for people made the smallest of rooms appear bigger than they were. I'm sure no one he acknowledged and ever said hi to passed him a second time without feeling like they were automatically friends. What a wonderful gift we all were given to have known him for his time here. We must now hold on to God's special parting gift of precious memories that He has left us with in Al's absence. His spirit will always live on. God bless and keep you.
our thoughts and prayers are with this family do there difficult times.

My heart was sadden when I was told of the passing of my "Brother". We will all miss you Al, and I know you are in a better place. May you rest in peace.
Dear Brother Davis's Family and friends,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of my Kappa Brother, Colonel (Retired) Alexander Davis Jr., on September 6, 2013. From my wife and me, the Davis's Family and friends have my deepest sympathy and all are in our hearts and prayers.
Brother Davis, AKA Big Al or Sonny as many would call him, but to me he was Brother Davis, in every sense of the word. He was such a kind, knowledgeable, and helpful person. I will never forget the fond memories of Big Al. He was one of the most fun persons to be around. He was able to effortlessly make everyone else have a good time. I remember great times we shared together in the United States Army while OCONUS and CONUS. We spent a lot of time discussing Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, INC. and about God's word. Big Al assisted a lot of General Officers and civilians in accomplishing their mission while serving our country. More importantly he led military and civilian personnel to reach goals which they were uncertain they could achieve. He was a family man who loved his wife and children dearly and talked about often. These are examples of Big Al's character to think strategic plans and his concern to assist others and family. I know that Big Al was well loved and respected with a big heart.
Big Al, not only reached out to assist others professionally but through his community service which he so loved to assist others in the community less fortunate, allowing them to achieve in life. Big Al always helped others which came natural for him. Brother Davis will truly be missed by me and many others whom he has touched.
Draw strength from the Lord because he is our provider: Psalm 29:11 The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
May God bless you and your family during this difficult time but always lean on the Lord for unconditional comfort, peace and joy. My family and I are praying for you and your wonderful family. You are all in our hearts and minds.
In Friendship & Sorrow,
Colonel (Retired) Bobby L. Claiborne
Seldom in this life do we meet real people who live up to the terms "Role Model", "Trail Blazer" or "Iconic"; Big Al did. He was instrumental in me being where I am today and I will never forget the lessons that I learned from him. I pray that God provides comfort and peace to the family during this time so that they may find joy in the knowledge that Al has received an eternal reward for his earthly service. God bless and Keep You.
Big Al was such a special person to everyone he encountered. He was always jovial, genuine and respectful. Cherish his memories and remember time will heal all wounds. Always seek the Lord's presence and he will direct your path.
I never saw a room that you couldn't bring light to. Your personality was infectious. We have lost a great one in you man. GOD PICKED ANOTHER ROSE FOR HIMSELF.
RIP BIG AL
To The Davis Family: My heart goes out to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sonny, Job Well Done! While I'm saddened by the news of your passing I know you live life to its fullest. Now the biggest homecoming is upon you. Enjoy.
Mrs. Davis and Family it gives me great grief to send this message. I met Bro. Davis in Yongsan, Korea in the Frat (Kappa), again while working in Washington, DC and just last month in Houston, TX at the Kappa Grand Conclave. Seeing him there brought back many found memories we shared together in the Bond. BIG Al's heart was far bigger than his physical stature. Will see him again in the Chapter Invisible. May God bless you and keep you.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Sonny D. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. I will miss seeing him at Homecoming.
Silhouette Davis and Family: At this difficult time we all are keeping you and family close to our hearts. Only good things should happen to families, so when something unfortunate happens instead, it's natural to feel sorry. May it help to know that we're thinking of you and family with deepest sympathy.
With sympathy from - Brother Walter Hill and Silhouette Barbara.
Mama Davis, Joyce and Alexis - I am truly stunned and saddened by the news of Sonny's passing. It has been years since I've seen you guys but it hurts just the same. You all embraced me like family "back in the day" and that included Sonny teasing me! I hope that you will trust in God that he knows best. Sonny is in a far better place, laughing with the angels, Carol and Mr. D! My prayers are with you all.
To the Davis Family: Karen and daughters, also to Joyce--- My heart is heavy and I know there are many people who feel the sadness of the loss of "Big Al". He was loved by many and had such a wonderful spirit-- he was funny and so many people will remember his big smile. He was a great guy and touched all of our lives-- from the Virginia State days to the Fort Bragg family-- the ties were strong! I wish you peace and that peace comes from God. He will provide for your family and many will extend their love to help you through this difficult time. I will keep you in my prayers and I am thankful for the gift of "Big Al" and his wonderful life. May God bless you with comfort, peace, faith and trust in His perfect plan. With love, Kathy Frazier
May God continue to comfort you and provide you strength during these times. I know your Angel is watching over you.
Big Al was a great friend and will be missed. I had a great time with him during our year at the US Army War College.
Karen, Joyce & Alexis--You are in our prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. Never lose your faith in God, it will help you through this difficult time. May Sonny rest in peace.

Dear Davis Family,
There are so many who are saddened by the passing of our "Big Al". I heard the news just this afternoon, but recently had a fond memorie of Al. This past Sunday (shortly after his passing) I was busy working on a goal I set long ago; to finally get my basement in order. The fist old moving box I opened had my Army War College year book in it from 2005. I randomly opened the book and on the first page there he was...a picture of Big Al wearing our seminar shirt with his ever present big smile. Of course, it made me smile. I had just spoken with him last month and he was, as always happy and thankful. I will miss him, but there are those who will be so glad to see him again. Enjoy your new home Big Al.
Karen and Family...our deepest and heartfelt sympathy to you who he loved best.
Boss Man - we are smiling through our tears remembering all the words of wisdom you gave us on a daily basis. We loved every minute of the last three years being steps outside your office door. We will hit the "easy button" and drive on - and occasionally check training in your memory then stop off for lunch at the Elephant Thai. Your Quartermaster legacy will always serve as our inspiration. Rest in peace for a job well done at this duty station... Please have our back with St Peter as you have always have…some of us need it more than others as you know!

Dear Karen and family,
There are no words that can express my sorrow. My favorite memory of Big Al is as follow: Big Al and I would have this conversation no matter the occasion or place. He would say, "Hey Marine, do you remember that time your Colonel fell out of formation on his face at the CASCOM change of command and then he would burst out laughing".
Semper Fidelis, Big Al
Dear Davis Family,
My deepest sympathy for your loss. Mr. Davis was a friend and mentor for so many people and I feel honored to be among the lucky ones. His zest for life and positive approach to situations was admired by me. Ms. Karen, I'm so glad we met and I hope we can meet again.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Davis family. Sonny will be missed. Sonny was a great friend to our family.
As you are faced with a time of death and difficulties, I too mourn the loss of a great friend. I truly will miss COL Alexander Davis, Big Al, Big Money Sonny, and Sonny in days to come. But I know that he will always remain within our everlasting life. Knowing a special friend throughout your life is a true blessing from above, and a gift that we all will have forever. Big Al cared about family always and treated friends and others the same. Through God and his son Jesus Christ, I was allowed to be around a true man, father and friend who understood and supported their beliefs. No door is too difficult for the key of love to open.

Dearest Mrs. Davis and family,
Sending prayers and love to you and your family during this time. I am so sorry for your loss. I am asking that God fill your minds and hearts with hope and peace that surpasses all understanding.
1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 says: For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
Big Al ... gone too soon. He was a super person with an enormous heart.
Another point of light ... in Heaven.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of our Brother Big Al. Words seem inadequate to express my feelings about this great loss. I extend my most sincere condolences to the family. As we all grieve, know that we are not just remembering you, but we are honoring the memories that we have all shared with Big Al. Although it is difficult today for us to see beyond our loss, looking back on those memories will help to comfort us tomorrow and beyond. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same. Big Al was one of those people. In the land of Kappa, there are no goodbyes for us. While we are honoring the memories we shared with Big Al, Our Brothers already in the Chapter Invisible are rejoicing to meet and greet him. While THERE, he will always be in our hearts.

To the Davis family,
Words cannot express my deepest sympathy. It was an honor and privilege to have served with BIG AL Davis as his Charlie Company Commander within the Life Line Battalion. I will always remember him chasing after those last jumps, so he could obtain the covalent “Master Blaster Wings”. You will be missed. Airborne All The Way- Life Line for Life!
My deepest sympathy to the Davis family. I worked with and for him at Fort Lee; great guy and leader. He will be sorely missed by all. My prayers for your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Davis family at this time. There are so many memories that we share with Big Al, I miss him already. I will miss the laughter, the bear hugs ,the annual birthday parties; just overall good times for they outweigh the bad. I first met Big Al when at 262d when he was the XO and later came back as the commander. His motto was" Do the right thing and be at the right place at the right time. Never said goodbye because he was always coming back to Fort Lee. His smile lit up the room. RIP my friend, You will never be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to the Davis family. Big Al was more than just big in stature, he was big in heart. May God hold and keep you in this time of sorrow.
My sincerest condolences to the Davis family. We will all miss Big Al, my DLA Battle Buddy. He brought a smile to all within the workplace every day. His genuine love and concern for his family was a special characteristic that we need more of in Army leadership. He was a very special man, leader, and Soldier!
To the Davis Family, I pray and trust God to send the Holy Spirit to comfort you during your time of mourning.
God blessed me to serve with COL Davis as his 262d Battalion S1 and the 23d Brigade S1 while he served as the Brigade XO. COL Davis was truly a dedicated, honorable Leader. His leadership style was that of a parent. He treated his Soldiers as his sons (D. Calloway, R. Howard, & J. Witherspoon) & daughters. I hold dear the memories of Calloway & Howard coming to me after a "mentor session" with COL D. Then later that day COL D would come to me with instructions to give my "brothers"; he cared that much that others succeeded. Often I joked with the "young CPTs" that COL D was their dad. It was great having Mr. Davis around as I served as a 1SG on Fort Lee. Although a retired Soldier, he continued to lead and advise as if he was still in uniform, taking care of Soldiers. I will forever cherish the memories of a legendary mentor and leader, COL (R) Al Davis. God's continuous blessings for the Davis Family, "LIFELINE FOR LIFE"
May the Lord's peace that surpasses all understanding be with the Davis family at this time. Please know that his leadership was greatly appreciated, and hiw service was not in vain.
- Florence Robinson-Jones, Philadelphia

Its is my prayer that he hears these welcome words; “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” RIP sir, and Stand-At-Ease Soldier.

His presence in my life albeit short was grand. He did not hesitate to embrace me as his best buddy's girl and later wife. He always made me feel as though our bond came through a lifetime friendship. I love you, Nikki, and Aaren because I was able to measure your goodness through his profound love for each of you. You would always have time to talk on the golf course at Fort Lee as we crossed each other's fairways. "WAZ UP G" you would say to me and when I shake your hand - I'd feel the power within. You were a great person and will be missed by many Al.
God's grace and comfort to the family. We'll all miss Big Al.
It's a very sad day and my deepest condolences goes out to the family of Big Al Davis. A true friend that will be missed very much.
Davis family know that Big Al was loved by all, he knew no strangers and was the best mentor anyone could ask for whether in or out of uniform. He will be missed by all who knew that great smile and warm words. May these words help you through this rough time. God bless

COL Davis, I remember the first day you came to VSU as a CPT to speak to a group of VSU Cadets in 1995. Since that day you were a mentor and true friend to me throughout my career. Your guidance and your toolage were always on point. I will never forget you always saying to me, "Hey there Airborne, I'm proud of you." Well, Sir I did not get the chance to tell you that your class of 1996 VSU Trojan Warrior Battlion Cadet was promoted to LTC in Aug 2012 and Sir I owe it all to you. You will be sadly missed. To the beautiful Davis ladies, please keep God first and he will guide you through it all.
To the Davis family I extend my deepest condolences. May God grant your family the comfort and strength you need to endure this difficult time.
My deepest sympathy to the Davis family. Sonny had a dynamic personality and a smile that could light up a room. He will be missed.
Karen and girls, my heart is heavy as I think about Sonny's passing. Know that you and your family are in my prayers. At this time, I ask God to comfort you and provide you the strength that you need to carry you through this difficult time.

My condolences to Sonny's family. He was such a great guy and he always had a smile for everyone. He truly was "Sonny D". You will be missed my friend.
Al was one of a kind - a strong man who influenced many and had more friends than anyone I know. It was special knowing Al and being his friend for many years - working and playing together, Al kept it real for us all, Above all, Al loved his Moms and family. May you rest in peace.
To the family of Sonny Davis, I pray that God will comfort your hearts during this very difficult time. Sonny was a classmate from high school. I last saw him at our class reunion, and he was still the gentle giant I remembered.
I will miss you Big Al! You were a true friend who sincerely cared about the needs of others before your own. I am a better person for knowing you over 38 years - from our times at Bethel High School, throughout our military careers, and finally as civilians at Fort Lee, Virginia. I am now left with wonderful memories of our times together. I pray that God will comfort and strengthen your wife and daughters, as well as your other family members and friends, as they go through this difficult period of saying goodbye to you and beginning the next chapter in their lives. Al, we now celebrate your remarkable life with tears and joy. As Psalms 30:5 reads, "...weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Let us look forward to the morning.
I will miss the big cup you brought with you when came over to CPG for a cup of coffee. However, what I will miss most of all is the big smile you came with the first thing in the morning to get that coffee. You not only will be missed but cherished by all who knew you. My prayers are with your family and all you touched in life.
Thank you Sir for that huge smile and your willingness to always mentor and offer a word of encouragement. My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Davis and your family. May God bless you!
The greatest legacy of a person is the impact they had on those they came in contact with; in Al's case he was a "5 Star General." I consider it an honor to have had the chance to work with Al and while I didn't know him for long, his enthusiasm and infectious smile made everyone feel like they knew him forever! For the Davis family, while words alone can't soften your loss, I pray you find some small comfort in knowing that you remain in the thoughts and prayers of Al's many friends and those he touched....each and every day. God-speed.
Big Al, I have so many fond memories of the great times we shared starting during OBC and throughout our careers. You have always been a great person and an exceptional friend. I will miss you dearly my friend. What a great example you set for us all. LTC (Ret) Tony Foster

During the uncertainty of an eclipse the life enhancing "Sun" actually remains ever present. God basically realigns His creations temporarily altering its view. In this uncertain hour, your awesome family has made it obvious that like the "Sun" duirng an eclipse...your life enhancing ways remain with us.
Your giving spirit is reflected in how Karen is actually taking care of us. Your pursuit of excellence is demonstrated by Nikki's trailblazing career pursuits. Your radiant smile is obvious when Erin walks in a lights up a room.
Thus, I'm encouraged that whether they called you Sonny D, Big Al, Col Davis, Mr Davis, or even one of our "Golf Course" names...there is no "Eclipse of the Sonny". The essence of you and the magnificent life you shared with us remains beyond 6 Sep 13.
God has basically realigned His creations and temporarily altered our view of one of His very best.

I will forever miss you - I am so proud that I had the honor of calling you "My Friend". Hopefully, we'll meet again on the other side. GOD SPEED MY VERY GOOD FRIEND!
Al, you will truly be missed. You had a way of bringing people together and ensuring that they had a good time. Your fun spirit and professionalism in the work place will be missed. My condolences to your family during this time.

"Big Al" you were always the man! Rest in peace my Brother… All The Way and then some Paratrooper!
It was indeed an honor to interact as a friend, Officer, and member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. May you rest in peace! May GOD continue to provide oversight, love, and protection to the Davis family!
Yours In the Bond,
Dr. Robert A. Jones III
Al, your presence and your smile will truly be missed. Your memory will forever be present. My heart felt condolences to your wife Karen and the girls, whom you were sooooo proud of. There aren't enough words that can express my sorrow.
To the family of "Big Al" as I have always known him, I am at such a personal loss that words escape me. Al was a great Soldier, great person, and a great example for others. To his credit, I NEVER heard one person say anthing bad about him. I have been told that he was very close to his mother and his family. My most sincere condolences to all of you. I share your loss. As one passes through this life of ours, we can only hope that this world is a better place because we were here. I can truthly say that that the world would not have been near as good without the influence of "Big Al." Lord care for our loved one and welcome him home.
To the Davis Family,
May GOD give you peace, strength and courage in your time of bereavement. "Big Al" will truly be missed but his memory will live on in our hearts. In the words of Big Al, "What up Nupe".
May GOD Bless and Keep you,
Mr. & Mrs. Carl L. Brown and Family
