Dear Angela, Gilbert & Lisa, Steven & Debra, and Gilbert's beloved grandchildren;
My heartfelt condolences on the passing of this gentle man. His conversation always interesting, his words always encouraging and kind, his humility admirable, he was a special man. I always sought him out at gatherings, and will remember fondly our last conversation when he enthusiastically talked about Tai Chi, and his desire to do whatever he could to preserve his mobility. I was impressed that he was so positive in spite of his limitations, and walked away feeling blessed to know him, and to witness the beauty of hope in a man who has experienced great loss. He could have turned to despair many times, but I believe his love for all of you kept him upright. My parents update me from time to time after enjoying a "date" with Gilbert and Angela-my heart was warmed knowing they shared your company and found respite in this special relationship.
He will be sorely missed.
I pray that all of you find some sanctuary in the memories he left behind, the times remembered, the love of all who knew him. The world is a lesser place without him.
I am so sorry.
