Dr. Laurel... I just found this online while referring you to friends. My heart goes out to you and your daughter.
James Bliss was the wonderful gentleman who sat next to my husband and I on our plan ride to Cancun! James has truley touched our hearts, we think of him all the time! My heart goes out to his family and friends!
My wife and I had met James on an airplane headed to cancun. Actually I remember before boarding the plane hearing this loud, red bearded man's stuttering voice talking to somebody on the phone while waiting to board the plane. I gave him a casual nod and behold he ends up sitting next to me on the flight! We shared many great stories and he told us all about his family in santa barbara, and I about ours in arizona. I could tell He was such a great person and had such a positive outlook on life, he told me all about Lou gehrigs disease and his struggles with it being a DR. I told him all about being a fireman and how much I love that career. I remember we talked the whole flight. after exiting the plane I saw he was having trouble filing out form with passport information and reason for leaving the country. I filled out his information for him and we talked in the passport line for another hour. my wife and I got a picture with James before we left the airport in cancun, I will never forget his story and inspiration. My wife cried on the way to the hotel because she felt so bad for him and all that his family must be going through. we talked about his situation and how that would change your whole perspective on life, how fragile life is, and all the small thing we take for granted. I will never forget his name and even though i have never met his wife or daughter. I just wanted to share what an inspiration James spread onto my wife and I. I am doing a research paper on Lou Gehrigs disease for my final and would love to include my story of James in my presentation. I thought it would be most respectful to share my condolences with you and your family/friends.
Spending time with the Bliss family is among my fondest childhood memories. I remember many hayrides with Jake and his "antics." Reconnecting in our adult lives--through Tim and Jenn, and then medicine--was a true gift. I am so very sorry for your loss. You are a wonderful, dynamic, loving, hilarious, zany family. We should all be so blessed. Thinking of you during this very difficult time.
My sincerest condolences to your entire Family.
Dear Dr. Laurel Bliss,
We are so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Please know that our thoughts are with you and your family.

Dr. Bliss was an extremely special person to countless people. I personally would not be able to write this if it wasn't for him. He saved my life after a very serious accident in 2007 and I will forever owe him a debt of gratitude. His memory will forever live on in many people including myself.
Dr. Bliss and family,
my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jake was much too young to die. God had bigger plans for him. May memories bring you peace and comfort.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bliss family at this time...very sorry for your loss.
"Give skill to my hand, clear vision to my mind, kindness and sympathy to my heart. Give me singleness of purpose, strength to lift at least a part of the burden of my suffering fellow men, and a true realization of the rare privilege that is mine." Father, Husband, Son, Friend, and true Healer. Jake will be missed.
Will be greatly missed. Enjoyed working with him.
My thoughts are with his family.
My deepest condolences to Laurel and Dr Thomas Bliss. I met you two when I was a co-intern with Jake at Brown. Such a great guy who was very friendly and a fantastic physician. He made my intern year so much better and I am better for having known him. Sorry for your loss

I'm blessed to have known, and worked with such a wonderful human. Jake will always be remembered by the staff here at Sansum, and the smiles and good times will never be forgotten...

This was such a fine young man in so many ways. He never wanted to rest on his father's great reputation, so he worked harder than his colleagues to "earn" his own great name. He was not only talented in his skills, but generous with his compassion. He was a joy to work with. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
To the Bliss family, I am so sorry for your loss. It was a privilege getting to know Jake during his ortho residency at RIH. May we all live our lives with the dignity, respect and caring that Jake did during his too short life.
It was an honor knowing Jake and his loving family. God bless and rest in our Father's loving hands.
Karen and I offer our condolensces to the entire Bliss family.Your dad and I were residents together. We, as families, lived next door to each other during our training.Throughout the years, I always knew the growth and maturation of both you and your sibs. I, at times, would review charts, and op notes, dictated by you. I was pleased to see your development into a competent Orthopod. You must have made your parents proud and for good reason.
Karen and I are presently in FL and unfortunately not able to attend the appropriate Quaker service. I did attend your mothers service, and I expect many will also extoll your virtues and accomplishments as well.
Our prayers are with your family and the entire Bliss family.
Karen and Peter Pizzarello

Dearest Dr's Bliss and your wonderful families, I had the pleasure of watching you all go through your training at R.I.H. All our love, and prayers are being sent to you during this terrible time. Such a tragic loss of a brilliant life gone too soon.May your memories help you towards some peace.
