Joe was a longtime neighbor of mine . It has been several years since he moved away and I have just heard of his passing . My children still talk about him and how nice and funny he was when he talked to them .

I was sorry to hear of Mr. McSweeney's passing. He was a consummate teacher who guided me and many others in our educational pursuits. My condolences to his family.

Many of us at Rhode Island College have fond memories of Joe for his dry, quick wit, always accompanied by a twinkle in his eye. He began his teaching career at RIC in 1965 and was extraordinarily popular among students and his peers alike. To many, he was a wonderful mentor; his unceasing dedication to students is a legacy by which he will be long remembered. Upon his retirement in 2000, he was named Associate Professor Emeritus of English and Secondary Education by then-President John Nazarian. Joe will be remembered with great fondness -- and always with a smile.

Susan,Joanne,Mark and David - we all send our most heartfelt condolences to you and your families. Judging by the four of you, I think it would have been an honor to know your dad better. We last enjoyed his company when he made his West Coast swing on his great baseball tour. We're cheering for the Red Sox in his honor, Joe is fondly remembered.
