Joseph Procaccini Obituary

PROCACCINI, JOSEPH P. M.D. 67, of Johnston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence. Joseph was the cherished husband of Alberta F. (Ristigian) Procaccini. Born in Providence, he was a son of Martha (Bellotti) Procaccini and the late Joseph Procaccini. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving son Joseph M. Procaccini of Johnston. Joseph was the brother of Martha Nardacci (husband Nick) and Charles Procaccini (wife Robyn). He was brother-in-law to Albert Ristigian Jr., Renee Gasparri (husband Chris), Karen Laflamme (husband Claude) and Judith Ristigian. He also leaves behind many adored nieces and nephews; Nicholas Nardacci and his wife Valery, Loriann Nardacci and her partner Nicholas Mauro, Jacqueline Gasparri, Julianna Procaccini, Maria Procaccini, Alexandra Laflamme, Talia Laflamme and Alex Zayat. Joseph was the great uncle of Leonardo Nardacci. Joseph graduated with high honors from LaSalle Academy. He was a summa cum laude graduate of Manhattan College and a magna cum laude graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE. He completed a Family Practice residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He started his career as a part-time emergency room physician in Washington DC where he was also employed at NIH. Joseph opened a private Medical Practice in Johnston RI from 1980-1993. He was a clinical instructor in Family Medicine at Brown University School of Medicine from 1984 to 1993. He then began his career at Reliant Medical Group in MA, where he worked in Adult Urgent care from 1993 to the present. His colleagues often commented what a difference one person makes in the lives of others. They have described "Dr. Joe" as someone with a following of fans that included patients', colleagues and staff. His calm demeanor and soothing voice helped many through challenging times. His colleagues looked to him for his wisdom, intelligence and wonderful wit. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude and deep appreciation to Dr. Joseph DiBenedetto, Jr. and his wife Pat. Dr. DiBenedetto was a friend for more than 30 years. As Joseph's physician, he gave him the greatest gift of many quality years beyond what was one would expect, given his rare diagnosis. Joseph was the most loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague. He believed his purpose in life was to be of service to those who were ill and needed help. He will be missed by all. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Joseph P. Procaccini, please make it to the Tomorrow Fund. His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Dearest Procaccini Family,

I just learned of Joe's passing. I'm still in shock. Mrs. JoePro, I'll never forget you either- waaaaay back you were kind enough to tell ICU that I was your family, so I could gain entry and go visit him after a Work-Excused Incident he pulled-

JoePro, as most of us Milford Adult Urgent Care nurses endearingly addressed him, was an almost indescribable Entity of kindness- a most caring, interesting, intelligent, wonderful person and provider. My heart hurts a lot to hear of your passing. My biggest hugs to you and your family,
Susan Hansen, RN,

I only had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Joe once, and I was very sick, but he put me at ease and treated me with compassion and expertise. He was a most excellent doctor, and practiced true medicine. I was very surprised to hear of his passing while looking him up to recommend him to a friend. My deepest condolences to his family. He is a great loss.

Alberta I am so sorry to hear that Joe has died. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Joe was one of my most favorite people in the whole world. I worked with him at Fallon for many years in Urgent Care. What I learned about him in that time was that he loved his family first and foremost, possessed a huge heart, had a tender soul and terrific wit. It was an honor to know Joe. He was one in a zillion. Rest well, Joe. Gail Burke RN

Our deepest sympathies to the family of a truly wonderful individual. I have had the pleasure of working with Joe for the past 12 years and he will be greatly missed. His humor was infectious in the department and he always had an upbeat attitude no matter what was happening. He was so caring and supportive when my family came in to be seen for many of their injuries, but especially for my son when he fractured his collar bone when he was 8. My son has always loved him and asked about him frequently. Please remember all of you are in our hearts and prayers during this time and he will always be in our hearts. I am so heartbroken to hear of Dr Joe's passing. I will be forever grateful for the wonderful memories I have of working with him at Urgent Care. Especially when times were tough he was the humor I needed to make my day. He was so caring and supportive when my family came in to be seen for some sporting injury or pneumonia all three within 2 weeks my husband and my 2 sons always had wonderful things to say about Dr Joe. I will miss him greatly. You(Alberta)and your son were the loves of his life. Please know Dr Joe will always be in our hearts and memories forever.

Dear Alberta and Joseph: I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Joe. He has always had a special place in my heart. I will never forget that fateful phone call he made, that I answered, that brought us together to open his medical practice in RI. He was also cherished by all the members of my family whom he cared for. He was such a sincere, kind and wonderful physician and person. I know he will be truly missed by all those he loved and touched, family, friends, coworkers and patients.

I am so sorry to see one of the best doctors pass away. I went to him when he first opened his practice and sad when he left it to go to mass. He helped me when no one else could. Many times in and out of the hospital he was a phone call away. He will be missed by his patients for the dedication he showed everyone.

As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". Dr. Joe was my trusted physician many years ago when he first opened his practice in Johnston. I was devastated when he left RI as I am now.
