McKNIGHT, PETER KIRK, 81 passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2013 with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Joan-Sandra (Hayman) McKnight. Born in Warwick, RI, he was the son of the late William and Mercy (Shirlaw) McKnight. Peter was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean War. An alumnus of RI School of Design, he worked as an industrial designer for Ciba-Geigy Corp. in Cranston, RI for 30 years followed by 7 years at APV Crepaco in Attleboro, MA. Peter was a devout follower of the Lord. A former member of First Presbyterian Church of Providence and current member of Greenwood Community Church he served as an Elder, Deacon, Trustee and member of the choir. In his youth, he was a member of Demolay. He was also involved with the University Glee Club of RI and the Barber Shop Quartet. Throughout his life, in addition to his passion for music, Peter loved to work with his hands creating detailed finish work on his home and building beautiful models and furniture pieces. Besides his wife, he was a devoted father to his two sons, Andrew McKnight (Debby) of Foster and David McKnight (Pamela) of Chagrin Falls, OH. He was a wonderful grandfather of 7; Nicholas, Kevin, Leanne, Elsa, Will, Nathan and Maris. He was the brother of the late William McKnight of Irvine, CA and Shirley Cruickshank of Florence, SC. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9am at the Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian, Warwick. Internment will take place at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. Visiting Hours: Friday, 4-7pm at Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home 800-812 Greenwich Ave, Warwick.
