BECK, JOSEPH S. of Cumberland died on July 21, 2013. Mr. Beck was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Maxwell A. Beck and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Beck. He was also the brother of the late Mary E. Beck. Mr. Beck was a United States Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Beck was a teacher and counselor at Cumberland High School for many years. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, a Friend of the Cumberland Library, a member of the R.I. Teachers Association, a member of the Rhode Island Irish-American Historical Society and a charter member of the National World War II Memorial. The funeral for Mr. Beck will be on Thursday, July 25 at 9:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aiden's Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland at 10:00 am. His burial will be with full Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. The calling hours for Mr. Beck will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. Joe Beck was a friend to every student in CHS. Mike and I graduated is 1962 but he remembered all of us...Loved his work and taught us to Love school and follow our dreams. He will continue teaching even in Heaven....glad he was a part of our life. We are still together living in the mountains of Western, Md. Prayers J.Beck

Mr. Beck was not only one of the best teachers I ever had, he was also a counselor for my sister Marcia! He was always there with a kind and gentle word. I have thought of him often and will never forget him.

As a graduate of the 1964 CHS class, I have never forgotten Mr Beck. He was a wonderful teacher and our class advisor. He will be missed by many . May he rest in eternal peace.

Mr Beck was one of my favorite teachers at Cumberland High. I believe I was a student of his in each of my 4 years there even for drivers ed. Judith Beverly class of 1964.

Mr.Beck was a great teacher - I had him for Type Class, and he was patient with me. He told me if I started looking at the keys, I'd never stop. He was right. As I type this in the hunt and peck style, I wish I had heeded your advice. God Bless you, Mr.Beck, and the kind spirit you brought to CHS.
