I'm not the type for fancy words, just real. I rode with Duff our first trip, lived next door to him after, and wished he hadn't switched from my platoon to another for the second trip. I'll never forget that day, the last time I saw him, or the other two guys. I'll always keep a picture of all three of them in my house somewhere as a reminder. I have a lot of great memories of Duff and I still think about him often. In my lifetime, already, I thought I had heard every possible nickname someone could come up with for me. Duffy proved me wrong and I can still hear in my head how he would call me "Bootton." He was always good for a laugh. A good friend.

To Shane's Family-
Shane and I had a few classes together in high school and were in the same graduating class. I remember he was always full of enthusiasm and exuberance.
This Memorial Day, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thank you for raising such an honorable son and courageous man.

To Shane-
Thank you for your honor, your bravery and your sacrifice. We are and always will be eternally grateful.

Sincerely,
Mary Letourneau (formally Tarpey)
