I was a customer at Fry's at 59th Ave. and Beardsley. Several months ago I saw him in the store. I mentioned to one of the employees that I liked his commercials on TV, because he looked and sounded so down to earth. She brought me over to him and introduced me to him. He was so kind to me, and I was so impressed with him. I will never forget this man. God bless him, and I know he will be in good hands now.
Jon, you will truly be missed... You were kind, respectful, and fair... You were a true gentleman, and a joy to work for! I am glad, and proud to have worked for you!
Saw him @ Thomas St. Fry's a year or so ago. My wife and I went over to him & shook his hand, telling him that they were beating the competition soundly in the heat of the local TV campaign. He smiled broadly & politely thanked us for the feedback & for stopping by. He had a positive screen presence and is surely missed by many.

Just walked into a store to do my shopping, and saw your photo there with flowers, and started to cry. I thought you were such a nice guy, and when you asked me last year, what improvements you could have made, and as a feisty Italian from N.Y.,I told you. A few weeks later I saw those improvements, and was so happy that you had listened. I'm so saddened for all of Fry's family, and especially your immediate. God bless you Jon. R.I.P.

Having worked for Smittys there was always a family feeling in the air. Then, the company began to change hands. We were bought and sold so many times we felt like orphans. When Jon became our President things began to feel different. He brought us together again and made us a family. He was a 'hands on' president and knew many employees by name! What a remarkable man! He lead us down the road of many changes as well as success. You were "ONE OF A KIND". We will miss you tremendously. No one can ever fill your shoes. We feel like orphans again.
RIP from a long time Kroger (MI) shopper.

The Phoenix community is mourning the loss of a family member. Jon Flora was a familiar face. If you looked up words like leadership and integrity in a dictionary there would be a picture of Jon Flora. I hope his family can find comfort in knowing how much Jon was respected and admired.
My sincere sympathy goes out to Christy, his family, his furry kids and his Fry's family. I was lucky enough to have known Jon by taking care of his dogs. He was a very down to earth, mellow individual. My daughter called him Uncle Jon. I will never forget when he asked her what her favorite store was, and she responded, "Circle K!" You should've seen the look on his face! Priceless! He will be missed dearly by this community!
Such a loss to so many, I will miss seeing Jon come in the store for a visit, his smile, his hug... he touched each of our hearts.
I worked with Jon at the Main Street Dillons store in Garden Cit, Kansas in 1972. I was a checker and he was in dairy. He was a great guy in high school and went on to big things. It has been inspirational to hear all the great things he has done. GCHS Buffaloes Proud!

I had the unique privilege of meeting Jon once while he was in Yuma. Such a warm person. We chatted for a long while, as we had many similarities in our background. Although Jon was just an acquaintance after that meeting, he didn't feel like one. Since that day, I felt he was more than that, a friend. Although we didn't ever talk again after that brief encounter, I am struck with sadness at the news of his passing. The world has lost a truly great man.

This man lived the " AMERICAN DREAM", by taking a job at 16 years of age as a clerk & bottle boy, and continuously rising through the ranks, leaving this world as President of Fry Foods, at 58 years of age.
His career was an example of "Capitalism", at its best....

At time like this getting close to our Heavenly Father will help all with this time of sorrow. (James 4: 8,)
My condolences goes out the Flora's Family. Jon and thirty-four (34) class members of Leadership Kansas (LK) spent an enormous amount of happy days and nights together. We bonded as friends for life and in death. I was walking through our home in Anthem, Arizona and I had the television on and without looking at the television; I told my bride that the voice on the television sounded like Jon Flora. It was Jon, marketing Frys stores. I was able to contact the local manager of the Frys store and asked him to contact Jon via e-mail. I asked him to tell Jon that I wasn't in need of job and I didn't want to borrow any money. I wanted him to know that I had seen him on television. Jon was always happy and smiling with that distinct voice that brought joy to the hearts of many. You and the Flora family will always be in our prayers forever. Jon was a unique person and he will be missed by thousands. May you rest in peace and may God bless your family, friend, and co-workers.
A friend forever!

Jon was one of the most engaged and dedicated non-profit board members/officers I have ever had the privilege to work with. In the late 90's he helped the Kansas Region of NCCJ (The National Conference for Community and Justice) turn a significant corner in fund-raising strategies. Dillons/Kroger and Jon have always had my greatest respect since then. I have often wondered where his career led, and now I know. His heart was so big and worked so hard, I can understand why it may have finally had to stop. My deepest sympathy to all his family and thousands of workers whose lives have been impacted by his positive influence.
Am sorry for the loss of this man. I hope and I pray that the family feels the love and comfort of our Heavenly Father, and the love and comfort of friends and family. I just moved away from there, and will miss the Fry's Food Store. May God be with all who loved and knew him..

58 is far too young to lose such a great contributor to our Arizona community. Light and love to the Flora family and families.
Rest in Peace, Jon Flora, a great man.
Mr. Flora was the first President I had ever worked for (40yrs 28 with Smiths/Fry's) that knew it was his people that made or broke the business. He treated us all with great respect. I will miss his integrity and passion.

I am so very sorry to hear about Jon's passing. I am a Fry's produce employee at store #60 in Glendale, Az. Every time Jon came into the store he stopped by and said hello to me. He always took the time to tell me that I was doing a great job. He would shake my hand and tell me how much he appreciated my hard work. He will be sadly missed.
Its a sad day when a nice man leaves this world that he helped make better, so young. His greetings on television about Fry's were more like a little visit than any kind of advertising and they always made me smile. He was so sincere and gracious and you could tell he really was interested in the people his stores served and the community. My heart aches for his precious family, in shock and disbelief of his passing. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his family, his store family and in memories of those of us who simply felt we knew he cared and were grateful for all he did for us through his stores. You will be missed Sir, keep your light shining for all of us who are left behind who are grateful for all you did.
