I cannot put into words the special quality of friendship I had with Jack Downhill. A man of class from another time. We would go to the ballet together and discuss art and culture, how society was changing for better or worse. He was a mentor and friend, father figure and fellow art lover. Whenever the city was too much I would go visit and spend the day, chatting , cooking , hanging out. I always felt safe and welcome, he was always kind and we always had great conversations! I miss him already and extend my sympathy to his family. He lives in our hearts and minds. RIP.

I am sending my condolences to all of you. My parents, Pat and Frank Brown and I visited your wonderful father when I was visiting from Virginia earlier this year and they were able to attend his services the other day. At the time of my visit, he was in very good spirits and we talked about his military service. My dad retired from the USAF after 21 years, my husband retired from the USAF after 30 years, and my daughter, Callahan, is a corporal in the USMC. My memories of your father include a chance to ride horses at his house when I was 11 or 12. I picked the biggest one and was in heaven until I was thrown! No injuries and your father was there to brush me off and get me back on my feet again (and back on the horse). He was kind, dignified, caring, smart, handsome, and a joy to be around. It is an understatement to write "his was a life well led."

Please let me know when the services will be at Arlington. I would like to attend if that would be alright. I live in Springfield, VA, close by.

You are not alone during this time of sorrow and pain. May God give your family strength and comfort to help you endure this loss. As you remember your beloved one, the God of peace give you comfort and peace in every way. May you find strength from the love and care that surrounds you and comfort in the memories that you shared. Please accept my sincere condolences. 2 Thessalonians 3:16
