Thinking of you Big Bos, keep the chin up, tell Jesus hello

On this Memorial Day I would like to thank Pfc. Bosveld's parents for raising such a fine young woman. Your daughters service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. God Bless.

Rachel's picture and profile will be on my DJ booth on memorial day so everyone will know about her. A song will be played in her honor.

Thank you to all who have left words of comfort. It warms my heart to know Rachel touched the lives of so many people. Her love shone out to the world in a way that she will not be forgotten it seems. It was a real joy to raise my daughter, Rachel, who had to be returned much to soon, to our creator. I think about her every single day and still miss her tremendously.

Love and light to all who have taken the time to write, thanks much.

Her mother, Mary

To the family of Pfc. Rachel Bosveld:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 28 May, 2006. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “What Are We to Remember?” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

I had the great honor to play the Bagpipes during the Bosveld House dedication ceremony in the Green Zone of Baghdad Iraq on 21 March 2004. The house that was named after Rachel is still being used by war weary American Soldiers when they need a break from the front. The dedication was attended by 2 Generals from the 1st Armored Division, MG Dempsey and BG Hertling, along with dozens of Colonels and all the Brigade Command Sergeants Major from the division. I remember the day clearly as I was wounded before the ceremony but was still able to play amazing grace in her honor. To my knowledge she was the first woman in our history to be awarded 2 purple hearts. I have made arraingments to donate the set of Bagpipes I played that day to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, (which is being built in Newburgh NY) in honor of both our purple hearts.

To Rachel's family and friends:
I too was stationed at the Abu Ghraib police station that night that Rachel's life was taken. I will always remember her quiet ways, always greeting you with a smile. I only wished that I could have known her for a while longer. She is remembered often, and missed dearly by all who's lives she touched. "Enforcer #1"

I had the honor of helping prepare the memorial service for PFC Bosveld at our headquarters in Iraq. When it was all said and done there had to be 3000 people there that day. From Private to General, American and Iraqi Police Officers. This took a chunk out of our hearts to say the least and I'll never forget the fond words of her close friends that day. My second year in Iraq I had an opportunity to visit a soldiers rest and recoupperation center in Iraq and to my amazement an entire building stood in honor of our fallen comrade called "The Bosveld Building." A plaque stands for all soldiers to see, honoring PFC Rachel Bosvelds memory. I cried as I read it.
