To the famiy of Colton Derr, my words cannot truly express my sympathy for the loss you have experienced. I worked with Colton in Iraq in 2009 at 6/9 CAV and I can honestly say he was a man amongst men. His enthusiasm and determination was an inspriation for many, and his heart was always in the right place. I was his supervisor at 6/9 and I can honestly say there have been few to none that have measured up to Colton's potential. I feel deeply for your loss and hope that the memory of how wonderful Colton was will live on in your hearts as the memory of him does in mine. Colton reminded me on a daily basis to do the best I can do for others and see outside myself for the good of all. We at 6/9 viewed him as family and I hope our condolences bring hope and promise to the future for your family. Rest assured he touched many of our lives in positive ways. I cannot begin to imagine the impact this has had on your family. Let it be known that many of us here are beside ourselves in this troubling time and our hearts go out to all of you even closer to Colton than us.
