I am devastated to hear the news of Ms. Meier's passing. I only learned of this yesterday and I am sorry that I could not be there to pay my respects.

Ms. Meier was my second grade teacher nearly 30 years ago at Doyle. She was also a member of the church where I was baptized.

At school, she was strict and I thought, at the time, a bit mean. In hindsight, I realized that she had a tough job; dealing with 6-7 year old kids on a near-daily basis. That can't be easy. At that age, she was not only teaching us the curriculum, but trying to teach and mold impressionable young kids to be better people.

After I left Doyle, I saw another side of Ms. Meier; she was kind and she had a lovely voice that I will never forget. She always seemed happy to see me, and I was also glad to see her.

I never told her about the impact/impression she had on me, but I think or hope that she knew. She was a great teacher and a great person. I regret not telling her that and not staying in touch with her.

Rest in peace, Ms. Meier. Thanks for all that you did. We will miss you.
