Kenneth Forness Obituary

New Paltz, NY

Kenneth P. Forness of New Paltz, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 48.

Mr. Forness was born March 13, 1961 in Olean, the son of the late Bruce T. Forness Sr., and Lois (Shepardson) Forness.

Mr. Forness was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in New Paltz, where he served in the past as a Eucharistic minister, a CCD teacher, and a member of the Parish Council. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Public Employees Federation Union, and a tireless friend and volunteer.

He was employed by New York State Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie, where he worked as a civil engineer for 26 years.

Ken was a kind and gentle person, best known for his love and devotion to his daughters. He will be remembered for his love of family, country music, weather reports, the Buffalo Bills, western movies, numerous collections, and for his famous banana bread.

He will be dearly missed by his three daughters: Cassidy Payne of New York, Alison Forness of New Paltz, and Olivia Forness of New Paltz; his former wife, Cindy Forness of Staatsburg; his mother, Lois Forness of Pineville, NC; his sisters: Cathy and her husband, Lee Surridge of Pineville, NC, Colleen Forness of Charlotte, NC, and Camilla Forness of Pineville, NC; seven brothers: Stephen and his wife, Debra Forness of St. Charles, MO, David and his wife, Kathy Forness of Troy, Bruce Forness Jr. of Charlotte, NC, William and his wife, Elizabeth Forness of Richmond, VA, Robert and his wife, Lindsay Forness of Chatham, NJ, Richard and his wife, Martha Forness of Rockwall, TX, John and his wife, Nicole Forness of Matthews, NC. Mr. Forness was a godfather to his niece, Christina Edwards, nephew, Ethan Heller, and family friend, LeeAnn Hejnal. Mr. Forness will also be missed but not forgotten by his 20 nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 S. Putt Corners Rd., New Paltz.

The funeral will be Saturday, January 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 34 S. Chestnut St., New Paltz, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Rev. Raphael Ioanne, O.F.M., Cap. Burial will follow at Lloyd Cemetery, Highland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assn., Heart Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.

I was really saddened to hear that Ken has passed away at such a young age. When I think of him I see his smile, and remember the stories he would tell, and the love he had for his children. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
