I was a tiny girl when Coach Royal began coaching at UT. He retired during my husband's years as a UT student. My family loved (and still loves) Longhorn football. Memories of seeing Coach Royal and his teams from the knothole section of Memorial Stadium and at the bonfires before the Thanksgiving Day game remain as some of my fondest childhood memories. Today I feel like I have lost an old friend. RIP Coach Royal. Thoughts and and prayers are with Mrs. Royal and family.

Mrs Royal and family,
I grew up a longhorn fan but was still quite young when he retired. Years later and as a UT grad, I had the awesome fortune to fly on a private plane with Coach to Dallas and back'. Just the two of us. It was and will forever remain a tremendous highlight of my life. What a role model'. I'm a better man for that conversation.
With sincerest respects,
Luke Bellsnyder. Austin

Thanks for the memories of great teams and a great coach, especially during the 6 years beginning June 1958 that I was at UT. Coach Royal was a fine coach and a fine man.
