Roz,
Thanks for your lovely thoughts about Betty! She was one tennis player, and no one in our family wanted to play with her because she drove us crazy with her short lobs all over the court! Glad I did not meet her in a tournament! I think of her several times a day and smile because she was one of a kind; lucky to have her as my mom! And she so loved the holidays....so we are still setting a place at the table for Beautiful Betty! We all were blessed that she had a friend like you...right to the end!

It has been a year and a half since Beautiful Betty passed away. I still miss her so much. I met Betty on the tennis courts at River Birch in 1987 after living here for exactly one week. She invited me to play tennis at Baywood Racquet Club the next day. We were instant friends but she drove me crazy if I had to play against her in tennis because she had every shot in the
book. Ran me ragged! She would go "anywhere" at the drop of a hat, especially somewhere for lunch.!! Love you BB!

Joanne, Thanks for sharing this story...it is true! She almost bought a Honda, but it did not have a cupholder in 1986. Two weeks ago we donated her little red Toyota wagon to charity complete with two inches of BVCC golf turf, 500 golf tees and about 200 golf balls on the floor. Did not bother to vacuum it out. It almost killed Mom to give up her car because it meant the end of her freedom to drive wherever she wanted. Cheers, Gray

I just wanted to add a thought or two about Beautiful Betty. How many times did I hear tennis players at Baywood say, "Boy, I hope I can still go like she is when I'm her age"? I am sure that she has logged more hours than most women on the courts and on the course at Brook Valley. Active body, active mind...we all need to follow suit. Thank you, Beautiful Betty, for all my experiences with you. One story... Betty had bought a new car years back and I commented on it. She said that she had gotten in quite a
few to try them out, but turned them all down except this particular one. She asked me, "Do you know what sold me?" "No, Betty, tell me." "The drink holder. It had to be just right to hold my drink." We both laughed.

I am sure we all have "Betty stories," but I can grant you that I will think on many and smile more than once in the coming days.

Thank you, Lord, for giving us Beautiful Betty...

just heard today....what an amazing women.....still remember celebrating her 70th birthday at the BVCC tennis courts....saw her just last year, looking good, playing bridge with her buddies at the club, AND will never forget seeing her walk the course at BROOK VALLEY with just 3 or 4 clubs....what an inspiration.....would like to plant a tree at the tennis courts, or on the course in her honor......
