Stan and his late wife, Helen, used to tickle me. Everyday, they would get their exercise by walking the neighborhood, always walking hand in hand. And always with a smile and a cheery hello to me if I was out watering my flowers. When I heard of Stan's passing, while sad, I still had to smile. I am sure he and Helen are now walking together again, holding hands and smiling.

My favorite memory of Stan Walter is from the summer of 1969. He and Helen stopped by during their evening walk, and I was in the kitchen playing with a new gadget that had just come out on the market. Stan had never heard of a hot glue gun, and was fascinated with what you could do with it. He said, "I'll bet that would fix my sneaker." Before I could stop him, he grabbed the hot glue gun off the table and stuck it in the hole between the fabric and the rubber of his shoe. When he pulled the trigger, he performed the most amazing one-legged dance. I was horrified at the time, but now I chuckle every time I think of it.
