Mary E. Hanson, 90, of Galesburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Rosewood Health Care Center.
She was born June 16, 1923, in Galesburg, the daughter of Charles C. and Lila R. Watkins Palmer. She married Stewart D. Hanson on May 4, 1946, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1981.
Mary is survived by three sons, Michael D. (Carolyn) Hanson and Mark S. Hanson, both of Galesburg, and Gerald S. (Carol) Hanson of Springfield; one daughter, Roberta Mather of Arlington Height; seven grandchildren, Tim Mather, Bradley Hanson, Laure Higgins, Steven Hanson, Craig Hanson, Melanie Lynn-Ayres, and Jamie Holtz; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Nancy Lind; three brothers; and one sister.
She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941 and was a physical therapy aid at Cottage Hospital for 21 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the Moose Lodge, the Elkettes, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Grace Anglican Church, with Father Andy Ainley and the Rev. Justin Lynn-Ayres officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Elks Lodge #894.
