I met Mona while working at Carl Sandburg College. I was drawn to her welcoming smile. From the first moment, I felt we were friends. That is how Mona made everyone feel, like a special person and friend. A day without Mona truly was a day without sunshine. The world is better because Mona was here. My world is better because I can call Mona Tourlentes my friend. Happy Trails, Mona, until we meet again.

Such a loss for Galesburg, and beyond! I swear, if every person earned an obituary as meaningful as Mona's, then, every city and town in the world would be a richer, smarter, better place. I had the distinct HONOR of getting to know Mona as an artist invited to Studios Midwest (which she helped to found, and helped to thrive for many years.) She founded several important cultural organizations, supported young people, visual artists, musicians, and those who were economically challenged...and STILL she had time to invite fellow artists to her house to watch her Moonflowers open on a summer afternoon! What a great woman! I love her, and I know most of Galesburg does, too. She will be missed far and wide...she is already missed here in New York! Knowing she was alive in this world always gave a sense of hope! Rest in Power, Mona!
