Uncle Dudley was a very kind uncle. I remember his enthusiasm for canoeing and love of nature. He was very interesting to talk to about just about everything. I will always remember him.

Uncle Dudley shared his love for English literature from the time we were children. My most memorable childhood books had been his Christmas gifts. His knowledge was extensive and he joyfully shared that with others in the most charming way. We always respected him so much, as did our mother (his sister), and enormously enjoyed each visit. He was indeed a beloved uncle.

I hated English until senior year when Mr. Manchester opened up new worlds to me with the likes of Shakespeare, Moby Dick and John Steinbeck. Thank you Mr. Manchester.

Mr. Manchester was also my sophomore English teacher at HPHS in 1970. What a joy it was to attend his class. He is the only teacher that I can recall that could make dull English literature seem adventurous. What a truly inspiring teacher, who was dedicated to his students and fellow co-workers. What a great loss he was to HPHS when he decided to retire. I have fond memories of Mr. Manchester and my days at HPHS which I will treasure for the remaining days of my life.
