Albert "Retus" Scheid passed away in Tacoma Washington on Wednesday, July 24th at 8:49 a.m., at the age of 80, with family at his side.
Retus is predeceased by both parents; Albert and Mary; his wife, Barbara JoAnne Scheid; older Sister, Nadine Eagan; and his younger brother Edwin "Nolan" Scheid.
Retus is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons: Michael and Mark of Washington; and Kevin of California; Daughter (in-law), Debbie Scheid of Washington; his four grandchildren: Sierra, Ellen, Erich and Kian; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Retus was born in Pierre, South Dakota on October 31st, 1932 and later moved with his parents and siblings to the Eugene, Oregon area. His desire to serve his country took priority over completing his high school education so he enlisted in the Army at the age of 17, in 1949. He served nearly 2 1/2 years overseas in the Korean conflict and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1953. During his service to our country, he was awarded a medal of occupation.
When he returned from overseas, he worked in construction in the Eugene-Springfield area. Retus enjoyed carpentry and construction and built three houses in the early 1960s, including the house that was his home, where he lovingly, and patiently, raised his three sons with his first and only wife of 45 years.
He retired from Eugene Sand and Gravel in 1997, as a marketing manager. He was proud of his 36 year career that he started out as a truck driver. He's remembered as a hardworking, dedicated father who unselfishly provided for his family.
In addition to carpentry and construction, Retus enjoyed driving and working on cars and patiently taught his sons woodworking and auto maintenance. In his own words, he did not like camping and fishing, but he selflessly taught those to his sons as well since he thought they were important activities.
The graveside service and interment was held at West Lawn Funeral Home, 225 S. Danebo Ave. Eugene, Oregon on July 29th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The service was officiated by his friend and minister, Glenn Harmon, followed by interment.
Honorary Pallbearers; Michael Scheid, Mark Scheid, Kevin Scheid, Erich Scheid, Kian Scheid
