You could tell that Mr. Horowitz taught because he liked to and helped others because of the love inside him. He helped me through some tough times when I was in High School, though he might not have known. I have the utmost respect for him and all that he did. If only more people were like him.
Mike was a wonderful man, and even though I only knew him for a short time, he is definitely somebody I will always remember.
Mr.Horowitz was an exceptional teacher and a big-hearted human being. He inspired me to continue learning science and he introduced me to my favorite music genre. The positive effects he has had on my life and our community are immeasurable.
We met Mike when he was a fellow patient in the rehabilitation hospital. Although he was struggling to talk, he was friendly and warm toward others. We thank Mike for making a scary time for us a little easier.
Mike will be missed by the many people he helped in so many ways. I always enjoyed talking with him and often had good laughs as a result.
"Teaching is helping others be the best that they can be." A phrase that embodied the work of Mr. Horowitz. He was a great teacher and always wanted the best for his students. I never had a teacher that cared more about his mission of helping others than he did. You will be missed Mr. Horowitz.
Mr. Horowitz was my chemistry and physics teacher. His class inspired me to study physics after high school. I will remember him for his great teaching as well as his generosity. He was an inspiration in both ways.
For over a decade, Mike came to ShelterCare Family Housing Program and donated various household items to our homeless families. His donations of towels, dishes, garbage cans, silverware, blankets, etc. helped the families greatly. He will always be remembered by me as a very generous man who was very humble and did not seek any attention.
My condolences to Mike's family. No one can ease the pain of losing someone so generous and helpful. God is near to those with broken hearts and he knows the pain and sorrow you feel. ( Psalm 34:17,18)
May happy memories comfort you as you celebrate a life well lived.
Mr. Horowitz was a great teacher. His class wasn't just about science, it was about opening up the minds of his students to the world around them. Churchill wont be the same with out him I'm sure of that.
Mr. Horowitz was an amazing teacher, and a selfless person. He will be missed, but his presence is still impacting the world through the students he taught. He lived for the greater good.
Mr. Horowitz taught my daughter Jesse at Churchill. In fact, she got her first "B" in his physics class...which taught her the futility of trying to be perfect. He was a great teacher, and taught her not to be afraid of science, which she is taking a lot of at UW. More importantly, he showed compassion; providing food, tea, clothing, and attention to his students.
Mr. Horowitz will be remembered by me as an amazing science teacher and a kind person. He made such an impact within the Churchill community and throughout Eugene.
He was a great man. He will be missed.
Mr. Horowitz cared greatly about the students he taught. He will be remembered fondly by many in the Churchill community.
Mr. Horowitz was an extraordinary teacher and an even better human being.
I will never forget all our conversations after school. You inspire me to do good in this world. I will never forget you and the impact you had on our Churchill community.
Mr Horowitz will always be remembered as a man who cared about everybody. He made a huge impact on myself and my group in high-school. Ill never forget spending lunches in his classroom. This is a sad day :(

I always respected your hard work and truly looked up to you. You were by far on of my favorite teachers. I won't forget what you did for others, and I won't forget you.
One of my most favorite teachers I have had, and not because I love science, because I didn't, but because Mr Horowitz had a great heart and was a wonderful teacher. I am so saddened by this news, but inspired by the selfless good deeds that he was always doing. The world has lost a great man. Shauna Rogers (Churchill Class of 2001)
Sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I attended some workshops with him and was impressed with his honesty and integrity.
This man was kind, progressive, supportive, hopeful and encouraging. He was also an amazing teacher. He used to take his planning period to go through garbage cans to find recyclables. He perplexed his students with the wonders of science as well as through his stupefying compassion. He was an inspiration for me to become teacher. He is and will be missed. Thank you Mr. Horowitz.
Thank you Mike for all that you did for our young people.
