R.I.P. SWEET COUSIN. GLORIA YOUNG
February 13, 2017
I recently visited New Orleans, and I was truly moved by the incredible people who inhabit this treasure of a city. Hearing people's stories about Katrina and how their lives changed as a result of the disaster made my heart ache and compelled me to learn more about the people and city that survived Katrina. Hearing stories of those trapped in Memorial Medical Center, Orleans Parish Prison, the Superdome, and on rooftops left me aghast at the hardship that so many people endured and the loss of so many lives. I cannot begin to imagine how incredibly difficult it would be to see something like this happen to your home, your family, your friends, and your livelihoods. But what I saw during my time in New Orleans was not a wounded city or damaged people; it was the most vibrant thing I have ever seen in my life; I saw a great American treasure full of wonderful people and incredible history and culture. I want to give my condolences to those who lost loved ones, and though I am not from New Orleans, I hold it and all its people very dear in my heart. My heart goes out to the people of New Orleans.
